Reid, his church agree to disagree on amendment (gay marriage ban)
The GOP/Bush asshats are so damn clever. With all the problems going on with this country, they deal on issues that make Dems like Reid look bad with the media whores and one of the last red states still showing a 50% approval rating for Bush ...the bastards are clever.

June 4, 2006

Disagreement over a proposed constitutional amendment banning gay marriage doesn't mean Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., is at odds with his church over the issues behind the amendment, a Reid spokesman said Saturday.

Reid, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will vote this week against a resolution calling for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, said Jim Manley, a spokesman for the senator.

The church, however, supports the proposal and issued a statement on May 26 calling on its members to contact their senators and voice support for the measure.

The U.S. Senate is expected to vote this week on the resolution to amend the Constitution. The amendment would define marriage as between a man and a woman.

21. As long as they are not supporting or opposing candidates,
(or political parties), they are free to keep their tax exempt status. The power to tax is the power to destroy. If the government started doing this, who do you think it would go after first? The Mormons? Or the Quakers and Unitarians? Be careful what you with for.

They do this across the board no mater which religion/denomination, every non-Athiest public offical has to listen without question to what their religious leader says and apparently nothing else matters. :puke:

5. Mormons are much more hierarchical and disciplined when
it comes to doing what the church says than any other Christian oriented group. Much more so than Catholics or fundies.

is the church, as is so clearly seen during presidential elections. It will bite both sides.

8. On the other hand, Soulforce is pro-gay AND tax-exempt
Edited on Sun Jun-04-06 04:20 PM by IanDB1
If you want to "level the playing field," and give a tax-exempt donation to someone working for tbe good guys...

Help Soulforce Put Up 16 of These Billboards in June to Fight the Federal Marriage Amendment

The anti-gay forces are making another attempt to amend the U.S. Constitution to define marriage in such a way as to exclude the families of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people. Senator Bill Frist of Tennessee is their agent for putting the Federal Marriage Amendment before the Senate.

During this summer's fight to defeat the FMA, these billboards will serve as a powerful reminder that Coretta Scott King called for legal protections for same-gender families. And we are placing them in Senator Frist's hometown.

You can make an online donation using the secure form below. Every donation is extremely helpful, though you will be excited to know that because Soulforce negotiated a great price, you can put up a complete billboard with a $500 donation!

Soulforce, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization and all contributions are tax-deductible.

11. Critics say Reid inconsistent: Senator's stance on gay marriage attacked
The subheadline should actually read "Senator attacked again"

June 6, 2006

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid is against gay marriage. He's also against banning gay marriage in the U.S. Constitution.

Reid, D-Nev., says that stance makes sense and is not an attempt to have it both ways, but he has come under fire from those who say his position on the issue is at odds with his constituency.

In a speech on the floor of the Senate on Monday, Reid said he believes marriage should be between one man and one woman and noted that he supported the ban on same-sex marriage in the Nevada Constitution and the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act. But he said he did not believe amending the U.S. Constitution was necessary.

"I believe in our federal system of government, described to me in college as a central whole divided among self-governing parts," Reid said, according to his prepared remarks. "Those self governing parts -- the 50 states -- have already decided this on their own in state after state," including Nevada.

"Reid may be a bastard, but he's our bastard."

I agree with about 80% of what Reid does, that's not all that bad since he is just a human being and not a GOD.

I also believe he needs to be careful and fine tune the eyes on the back of his head as it is only obvious the GOP is gunning for him. I keep waiting for headlines that read "Reid caught passing gas while being human".

The government has no business defining marriage. Leave it to churches and individuals; and recognize all civil unions.
