(MD Lt Gov) Steele Absent From Bush GOP Fundraiser
Whether Unpopular President Will Hurt Md. GOP in Question

By Matthew Mosk
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, June 1, 2006; Page B05

President Bush shuttled into Maryland last night to help the state Republican Party raise more than $1 million for a number of high-profile 2006 races, but only one of the state's two marquee Republican candidates joined him.

Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. stood on a riser shoulder to shoulder with the president, but the party's leading candidate for an open U.S. Senate seat in Maryland, Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele, was absent. Steele had a scheduling conflict, campaign spokesman Doug Heye said ..

Democrats were eager to promote Bush's appearance, figuring it wouldn't help Ehrlich politically.

"We encourage him to come back every day and spend more and more time with Governor Ehrlich," a grinning Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley said at a news event yesterday morning. O'Malley and Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan are the two Democrats seeking to unseat Ehrlich this fall ..

3. Steele? Steele who?
Oh that Steele.

Don't care. Just another bandwagon pub.

Erlich is enough to make you puke.

Erlich's adds beg you to go to Ocean City, MD. I'll opt for the Deleware beaches instead.

7. This is funny!
Bush goes out for campaign appearances, and the Candidate disappears! if there was ever a case of "Radioactive Bush" it's now.

No one wants to be seen with him.

Now, for the time being, it's not generating so much news. But just wait until the summer, when the Repubs start gearing up full-time. Bush will go to all these appearances, and he'll be ALONE. The Repubs wont' be there. it will make national news.

The headline reads "Bush Alone again at campaign dinner" They won't be able to get away with it for long.

Come to Daddy

12. Where have we heard this one before?...

I like Bob Ehrlich because he's not afraid to take on problems," Bush said. "Bob Ehrlich is a problem solver."

Yea, and he, you know, governs things, he's a governor.

Senate hopeful picks son's graduation over Bush visit

By CURT WOODWARD
ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mike McGavick said Tuesday he can't attend a fundraising event with President Bush next month because the date conflicts with his eldest son's high school graduation.

Bush still is expected to visit Washington state in June, with likely events for the state Republican Party and incumbent Rep. Dave Reichert, R-Wash., McGavick said.

But McGavick said he had to turn down an overture from the White House because he is traveling to Pennsylvania for his son's June 15 graduation.

"We've all along said that we would like the president to come to the state and campaign for us and raise money," McGavick said in a phone interview. "I'm sorry that I won't be able to be there when he's here."

State GOP officials and Reichert's campaign forwarded calls for comment to the White House, which declined immediate comment. "We don't announce the president's schedule that far in advance," White House spokesman Alex Conant said.
