Former minister tells Blair to quit
Edited on Sat Jul-19-03 01:10 PM by BlueState
Saturday July 19, 2003 17:49 - (SA)

LONDON - Glenda Jackson, a former minister in Tony Blair's government, on Saturday urged the British prime minister to resign over the death of arms expert David Kelly.

<snip>

Jackson said the judicial inquiry announced by Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon into his death would paralyse the government while Blair remained in office.

What do you think will others join in encouraging the poodle's resignation?

3. Yes, no
Gordon Brown (the Chancellor) would (likely) take over. Labour would still be the governing party. I would still bet on a 3rd term.

9. That is it exactly
"new" labour has a majority of about 180 seats and it will take a miracle to lose all that at the next election.

That said, that sort of miracle is about the only sort Blair seems able to provide the Labour party at present. it will be much better for the Labour movement if Blair goes. At this rate the millstone of WMD will never be removed from Blair's neck until he leaves office.

7. The Fallout: Who will go? (The Mirror)
Wouldn't it be ironic if Blair is ousted shortly after his hero's welcome in the US Senate? At a minimum, someone will take the fall. As the following article speculates, the question is who will be the first to go?

THE FALLOUT: WHO WILL GO? Jul 19 2003

Blair, Straw, Campbell, Hoon in the line of fire

By Oonagh Blackman, Deputy Political Editor And Bob Roberts, Political Correspondent

TOP Government figures could face the axe in the fallout after the death of Dr David Kelly.

As well as the Prime Minister, others under intense scrutiny are Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon and Foreign Secretary Jack Straw as Dr Kelly worked for both ministries.

Spin chief Alastair Campbell is also under severe pressure.

As the furore mounted, Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith said he had not ruled out demanding a recall of Parliament.

He said: "There are very many questions that will need to be asked over the coming days."

Last night, Mr Blair's communications chief ALASTAIR CAMPBELL was said by friends to be "considering his position".

But Mr Campbell, who has been involved in a bitter personal row with the BBC over its claims he "sexed up" a dossier on Iraq's weapons, has decided not to resign immediately.

He flew back to London yesterday after watching Mr Blair address the US Congress in Washington before going on to Tokyo.
