Rock slides close road to Yosemite

MARIPOSA — Highway 140 is closed east of Mariposa due to major rock slides — again.
The closure keeps traffic from the popular route in and out of Yosemite National Park.

"That debris is coming down faster and now larger debris is coming down," California Department of Transportation spokesman Bob Boswell said.

The landslide is about 600 feet long, 600 feet wide and 300 feet deep. It's possible that all the debris could fall over a period of time, Boswell said.

Geologists are installing camera equipment to study the landslide's movement, Boswell said.

1. Is it a good thing for the ecology of Yosemite if fewer people can get
there?

If we were allowed to run our snowmobiles to hunt grizzly bears and drill in the Artic National Wildlife Reserve, none of this would be happening. Look what you've done! You were warned not to reintroduce wolves, but did you listen?
Pave Yosemite! It's the only way to bring democracy to the region. Better yet: blast it down and convert it to a productive gravel pit quarry. That will make it the first so called National Park ever to pull its own weight and to contribute to the national economy, and as a side benefit, dangerous events like this one, involving tons of loose rock, will never happen there again.

3. I am so glad you posted this.
My son was about to leave to go camping there. Are there other roads into the park?
