Casey Wins Pa. Democrats' Senator Primary
Political veteran Bob Casey, the heavy favorite, easily won the Democratic nomination in Pennsylvania on Tuesday to challenge conservative Republican Sen. Rick Santorum (news, bio, voting record) in the fall.

<...>

The 46-year-old Casey, son of the late Gov. Robert P. Casey, now serves as Pennsylvania treasurer. He was courted by national Democratic Party leaders to take on Santorum, the Senate's No. 3 Republican and a close ally of President Bush. The race could cost a combined $50 million.

Santorum was unopposed in the GOP primary.

Casey cruised past two political newcomers in the Democratic primary, Philadelphia pension lawyer Alan Sandals and Philadelphia college professor Chuck Pennacchio.

With 13 percent of precincts reporting, Casey had 59,278 votes, or 82 percent, compared with 8,024, or 11 percent, for Sandals, and 4,823, or 7 percent, for Pennacchio.

Don't see any other horse in this race at all.

13. Do you have one iota
as in one tiny dot of evidence, that Casey spent anything like 50 million. That would be the most expensive Senate race in US history even counting both candidates.

"The race could cost a combined $50 million. "

also, i missed the term combined.. I'm not clear if that refers to the combinations of candidates races or referring to Casey's race for Primary and then General election. (?)

27. It has to mean combined for both
and even then I think 50 million is very high. It is possible but I frankly doubt they will combine to spend that amount of money.

11. Rich White Males....
That's it....

now, if the people who were getting shit on....

The people who have the most at stake in this freakin' country....

If the people who need the government most would take the time and vote....

Then the Rich White Guys wouldn't be winning all the elections...

Don't tell me it's voter fraud....

The poor people, the lower middle class people, the one's on the edge....

Didn't vote all that much before the advant of Electronic voting....

15. Psst....
In case you missed reality....

People who need government the most....

Don't vote....

Suburbanites vote about 65%...

People in the inner city and deep rural areas vote about 35-40%....

And that was going on long before Diebold hit the scene....

One thing I can agree with you on, there have certainly been people willing to do all sorts of cheating in order to "win" for a long time.

17. Well, I pity the fact you are so cynical....
there is room for that....

But the trends are far too pervasive to dismiss...

Suburbanites vote....

Inner city voters don't...

18. Is it cynicism or is it the truth WC?
Look at the past few tens of centuries and tell me Im wrong.

I'm honestly looking for answers. We have to start looking for answers before a group of individuals ruin this planet for everyone and everything on it.

If that makes me cynical, where do I sign?

19. Sometimes, people have to take responsibility for their
actions...

or, inactions...

I worked in the inner city of Cleveland, trying to get out the vote.... Black, white, hispanic, ethinc....

It's all the same...

People have given up....

They just don't care enough to take the time to vote....

They have bought into the easy cynicism that is, after all, a self full filling prophesy ...

My vote doesn't count... Why should I vote...

I heard that so often in my eight years as an elected officer of the democratic party in cuyahoga County....

I heard that when I was on the board of elections and watch over and was responsible for an election in the mid 90's....

People have been conditioned to depend on the system while chiding it as well...

It's a cycle that must be broken...

20. People are working from 7 to 9 o clock every day and dont have time
for the fucking families, or time to have one quiet moment to themselves.

They are trying to survive in a culture that uses them and holds them down in dead end jobs.

Yeah. I see how they become cynical and apathetic. When your voice is dismissed, patronized and invalidated over years, it begins to make an impact.

I spend a lot of my time trying to get people more involved in politics. I will tell you at the same time, I understand their resignation. Its going to take all of us to make this machine stop moving in the horrific direction its going. And its going to be tough, because they could care less about us in Washington.

21. I too, understand the resignation.....
And yet, the people who live in the suburbs, working long and hard (I hope you don't infer that everyone who lives in Suburbia is sipping chablis and eating bon bons poolside or that everyone residing in more urban settings are working 12 hours a day in a valiant attempt to stave off poverty), seem to find themselves at the polls on election day....

What is needed is for those at the top of our party structure, meaning those who are the self anointed spokespeople for the democratic party, have got to understand the harm they do by tip toeing through the class issues....

Sigh, if only those who have the stage used it for the betterment of all instead of investing that precious capital in their own personal attainments.....

28. Here Here!
I've been sayingthe same thing for years. The urban working class and poor don't vote. But if they did, you'd probably never see Rethugs in high office ever again.
The class issue is one that spans most other issues, gender, orientation, race, religion, etc. As long as the elites can sow division over other issues, they people won't see the elephant in the room. The history of the United States has always been predicated on class and the struggle of the people for decent treatment. As in past societies, people take only so much before they blow. How much the American people can take at what will happen when they finally do blow, I don't know. But I do know that when it happens, it won't be pretty. God herself won't be able to help us.

7. I'm very upset with this
I'll vote for him in November, but I'm not well pleased.

The only thing is that when he beats little Sanctorum (sic) he'll probably be a bit more responsive to pressure from Dems. In fact, it might be a good idea to start now with letters urging him to support ethics reform, corporate oversight, the environment, womens rights, gay unions, gun control and impeachment.

30. I realize that, thank you.
However, isn't this the place to occasionally complain about results?

Haven't we all been complaining about the results of 2000 and 2004 since this board started up?

Sheesh.

If I can't vent here, where?

22. we had "problems" voting yesterday (PA)
went to vote - first thing we did was to check out the ballot 'sample' - the only thing on the ballot for DEMOCRATS were for party committee members

None of the democratic candidates for the senate, house, state legislature, governor, lt. governor were on the Democratic ballot. We asked why - the poll officials just said "we don't know"

looking at the Republican ballot - all the republicans running for office were on that ballot... :wtf:

I realize we are a tiny town - more cows than people... but :wtf:

our other concern were the new voting machines. previously, we had two lever machines - now we have one computer machine - that really slowed things down.

we're making some phone calls today to find out what's up with the ballot and why we only have one computer voting machine.
