1. I don't get how this is landing. Blair? MPs? the Beeb?
Edited on Sat Jul-19-03 09:16 AM by DrBB
On the one hand, it certainly has breathed new life into the WMD, Dodgy Dossier story, well and good. Or has it? And who pays the price and why?

Does this matter focus all attention on the question of whether this poor guy was misused by--well, by whomever, maybe all of the above--and not on the question of a "democratic" country being lied into a war that the population by and large didn't support? And if it helps the Tories get their legs under them again and even oust the Labour gov't, well, that's more a victory for Shrump/Rove than for us, isn't it?

Having trouble parsing this one....

on edit: meant this to be interrogative

3. The main effect of this will hurt Blair and Campbell
The worst idea Blair ever had was going into this war with the USA. I really liked the guy beforehand. But Bush won't shed a tear--Blair is (mostly) a liberal. The conservatives won't be able to wrest power from Labour, but this is some wacky stuff.

4. so, he left the "safe house", returned home and was found dead...
does no one find this to be a major problem ???
sounds more like he was KILLED by someone else...

-snip-

He was not happy to be kept away from his family at a safe house and had insisted on returning home.

7. Ministry of Defense had him in a safe house.
Wouldn't that imply that SOMEBODY thought he was in some type of danger?

He left the safe house to go home to his family and he immediately kills himself???

Somehow none of this makes any sense to me. If the MoD felt he was in danger--enough to put him in a safe house--then it makes me wonder about any suicide that followed immediately.

When you add into that the statements that he made that he wanted to be with his family, that just doesn't sound like a person who is contemplating suicide. It sounds like a guy who really had no idea how much danger he was in...
