Developer Peter Monroe challenges Harris in GOP primary
Associated Press

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Peter Monroe, a developer who helped manage the government's savings and loan bailout, qualified Friday to challenge U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris for the Republican senatorial nomination in Florida.

Gov. Jeb Bush and other Republican leaders have been looking for someone to take on Harris because she trails incumbent Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson by about 30 percentage points in public opinion polls. Bush said earlier this week that he didn't believe Harris could beat Nelson.

Monroe, of Safety Harbor in the Tampa Bay area, managed the liquidation of more than $400 billion in real estate assets from failing savings and loans while heading the Federal Resolution Trust Corp. Oversight Board in the early 1990s.

State Rep. Dennis Ross of Lakeland also said he may enter the Republican primary. Noon Friday is the deadline to qualify for federal offices.

1. I knew they wern't going to let her run without a fight...
...they've acted so wildly desperate in the last 72 hours.

Fine. Now...when they screw you "imperially," Katherine...come and cry on our shoulder...and tell us what they made you do for them during that messy election thing, 'K?

15. Just a thought ...
some states allow people during primaries to vote for whichever side they choose.

10. How are we doing time-wise?
It's 9:00 am Pacific time. What time is it in Florida, and has the deadline passed?

11. This is quite good news. Doesn't matter who wins. It can't help the
fortunes of the Republican Party in Florida and most of all - it bloodies up Jebbie boy. Is he just one big old goober or what?

12. Excellent!
this nobody can't beat Harris in the primary and wouldn't beat Nelson even if she drops out. Hopefully, they'll have a nasty primary race that will lead to much bad press, lots of infighting and many republicans staying home in the general.
