OLYMPIA -- Washington state's jobless rate fell six-tenths of a percentage point to 7 percent in October, reflecting a national upward trend in employment, the state said Tuesday.
"Although we are still a long way from a full-scale labor market recovery, there has been significant improvement over the month," said Employment Security Commissioner Sylvia Mundy.
The national unemployment rate decreased by one-tenth of a percentage point in October, to 6 percent. In Oregon, the October jobless rate was 7.6 percent.
Washington's 7 percent unemployment rate, adjusted for seasonal trends, is the lowest since March. Looking at the total number of people with jobs, Mundy said the labor force has reached its highest seasonally adjusted level since January.
