Rehberg stops snowmobile ban

A last-minute deal by Rep. Dennis Rehberg kept the U.S. House of Representatives from passing a ban on snowmobiling in Yellowstone National Park Thursday.

The measure, which was a proposed amendment to the Interior Department appropriations bill, failed on a tie vote of 210 to 210.

However, for a brief moment the vote was 211 to 209 in favor of the ban.

Then Rehberg, R-Mont., convinced Rep. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, to switch his vote, putting the final tally at a tie.

I love Yellowstone, and I HATE snowmobiles. All cross-country skiiers are in a blood pact to remove them from the face of the earth.

Seriously, we only really mind when it is in a national park--noise and pollution are not cool. Watch out for us, we sometimes wear funny hats and may yell things as we go slowly by.
