Sister of Iraqi vice-president Hashemi gunned down

Baghdad: Gunmen killed the sister of Iraqi Vice President Tareq Al Hashemi in Baghdad on Thursday, Interior Ministry sources and two officials in his political party said.

They said Meysoun Al Hashemi was gunned down in the Hay Al Ilaam section of Baghdad.

Meysoun Hashemi was travelling in the southern Baghdad neighbourhood when "gunmen ambushed her car and sprayed it with bullets, killing her and her driver," an interior ministry official said.

The vehicle had been blocked by a car and gunmen then swarmed the mini-bus and fired 32 shots at Hashemi's sister and her driver, said an announcer at the television station of Hashemi's Iraqi Islamic Party.
