First, if they are openly called "political", how can they be non-profits!?
Second, look at the careful phrasing regarding the xenophobic inclinations of their membership. Another entertaining quote is how FOF believes they shouldn't just throw uneducated opinions out there, both highlighted below:

Washington - Conservative Christian groups that have wielded increased political clout in recent years are torn over immigration, facing the same kind of internal rift on the issue as the Republican Party.
Groups such as the Family Research Council must decide whether to stay loyal to their traditional memberships, which include many who oppose illegal immigration.
But that could hurt the groups' ongoing efforts to reach out to Latinos on such issues as defending traditional marriage, opposing abortion and supporting school vouchers.

Focus on the Family has not taken a position on immigration and isn't considering doing so.
"We just don't have an expertise in it, and it's an issue that requires some expertise before wading in and throwing around opinions," said Christopher Norfleet, Focus on the Family spokesman.
