Company Runs Background Check On Wrong Man
More businesses are digging into your background before hiring new employees, but for one man a case of mistaken identity nearly cost him his new job.

(snip)

Documents from a background check company called First Advantage confused Williams with somebody else. They thought he had three DUI arrests.

(snip)

First Advantage didn't bother to check thoroughly, despite their claim that, "We take our responsibility to report correct information seriously."

(snip)

"I called First Advantage, and they said, 'there's pretty much nothing we can do. It's going to take two to three weeks,'" Williams said.

1. well, this part makes me feel sooo much better
After lawyers got involved, Williams got his full-time job. In the meantime, Florida's attorney general will keep a close eye on complaints, so background check companies don't needlessly prevent someone from getting a job, Kelly said. :sarcasm:

4. Of course the AG will keep an eye on complaints
He's running for Governator.

Maybe he should have been keeping a closer eye on Jeb.

2. What are you afraid of if you've got nothing to hide?

:sarcasm:
It's better to prevent innocent people from getting jobs rather than let one shady character get hired. Isn't it? Better be safe than sorry?

Marcus Williams, black, living in state A and Mark Allen Williams, white, currently incarcerated in another state. I can see how their crack team of background checkers made the mistake.

Mr. Williams is fortunate. Had the mistaken identity involved another African-American named Marcus Williams he'd be up the proverbial creek without a paddle.

3. Many companies would never talk to you again
so there would be no way of knowing about the error.

5. I saw this happen a few weeks ago
A woman applied for a job at Mall-Wart, and her background check came back as a felon. The problem was someone stole her identity, 3 years ago, and she just found out about it. The Sheriffs office checked her records, and her DMV photo wasn't her.
