Bush's Approval Remains Low,
Pessimism Grows, Poll Shows
THE WALL STREET JOURNAL ONLINE

President Bush's job-approval rating slipped for the third consecutive month and remains near the lowest mark of his presidency, according to a new Harris Interactive poll.

Thirty-five percent of 1,008 U.S. adults surveyed in the telephone poll think Mr. Bush is doing an "excellent or pretty good" job as president, down from 36% in March and significantly lower than 43% in January. This compares with 63% of Americans who said Mr. Bush is doing an "only fair or poor" job, down from 64% in March.

Furthermore, pessimism about the direction of U.S. policies appears to be growing. Only 27% of Americans believe "things in this country are going in the right direction," a drop from 31% in March, according to the poll.

Bad news from Iraq appears to weigh on the general public, as 23% of Americans said they consider Iraq to be one of the top two most important issues the government should address. The ongoing immigration debate also prompted 19% of Americans to consider it a top issue, a sharp gain from just 4% a month ago, followed by health care (13%), the economy (12%) and education (10%).

5. Bush approval is > 50% in only four states.

The top ten Chimp states in the poll:
Utah - 55%
Wyoming - 54%
Idaho - 53%
Nebraska - 51%
Oklahoma - 48%
Alaska - 47%
Kansas - 46%
Alabama - 45%
Louisiana - 45%
Texas - 45%

And here's another point that's important:
Ohio - 34%
which is the lowest approval of any Red state in the country.

This is very telling. The nation's opinion of the Chimp has completely soured.

The bottom ten states:
California - 30%
Pennsylvania - 30%
Illinois - 29%
New Jersey - 28%
Connecticut - 27%
Delaware - 27%
Vermont - 27%
Massachusetts - 26%
New York - 24%
Rhode Island - 24%

3. Let us not forget...

... that GW was put in the White House for that exact purpose. Some call it revenge for Clinton ruining/delaying Poppy's plan to drain the US Treasury.

7. Considering that Michigan Is 48th State in Economic Prosperity
it's odd that Bush rates so high (but there are a lot of Koolaid drinkers here).

14. I'm wondering about the 8% gap
Bush "enjoys" a 35% approval rating, and 27% of folks think the country's on the right track. I take that to mean that at least 8% of folks who approve of the job Bush is doing think the country's on the wrong track. Nuts.

15. As Tina Fey said on "Weekend Update"
"66% of Americans think Bush is doing a poor job in Iraq, while the other 34% think Adam and Eve rode dinosaurs to church."

Or, as I say, Bush could blow babies on national TV and 36% of the nation would still give him a pass.

Hell, they'd line up, infants in hand, for the special tongue baptism from the Anointed One.
