Giuliani fires up crowd
Headline should read: "Giuliani makes a God damn fool of himself."

From the Times-Herald, Norristown, PA: http://www.timesherald.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=16498882&BRD=1672&PAG=461&dept_id=33380&rfi=6

" WHITPAIN - Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who many credit with holding New York City together in the wake of the Sept. 11, terrorist attacks, popped into Montgomery County Tuesday to drum up support for Republican U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum's re-election bid.

Sen. Santorum is a remarkable political leader," Giuliani told a receptive crowd of elected Republican officials, GOP candidates and first-responders and their families. "He is not just a U.S. senator, not just a political figure but a leader."

Hey, Santorum: Man on dog! Man on dog! Some leader you are.

1. Guiliani's doing a 'McCain"
Kissing up to the RW of the GOP so he can have a chance in the primaries. :puke:

The fundies won't vote for him anyway, and Guiliani just come off looking like a fool.

13. Complimenting Santorum = "There's NOTHING too shameful for me!"
I mean, what better proof of his willingness to suck up to know nothing social conservatives than to give such compliments to Santorum? Looks like Giulani has put his manhood in trust for the duration.

23. Giuliani also supports little Ralph Reed of Abramoff corruption scheme
remember? Ralph was assisting Jackoff in gouging Indian tribes by helping them get their casinos while railing against gambling casinos.

8. You'd be surprised at the number of well-to-do Pittsburghers
who support Santorum. I see the Rick 06 bumper stickers every day on the Parkway East and I shake my head (trying to get the thoughts of running their cars off the road).

5. Giuliani is the best wedge issue the dems can use.
He is a walking political wedge. We should all pray he runs for president. He would split the republicans in half. The fundies hate him, he has so many skeletons, he has a huge target painted on his back. He's the republican Hillary.

17. I'm with you, Pat
Better for the Dems with Rudy as the candidate than McCain. Rudy won't pull in the NASCAR Dads. Too Noo Yawk. And we're still so provincial in this country we won't dare elect a president whose name ends in a vowel.
Of course, Rudy does have that groovy video of him dancing in his white suit. Now there's a campaign ad.

15. Did he drag along his ex-wife, children, and mistress???
I mean, the guy can really be entertaining that way, as a philandering hypocrite who tried to move his mistress in with his wife and children... or when he tried to throw his wife and children out. What a hero... swoon...

16. No big deal,
The Times Herald is a small local paper to begin with. The area where he spoke (Center Square/Whitpain) is heavy Republican area. Santorum was going to win Montgomery County anyway. This little blip (no one will remember this by next week) won't do a thing.

20. Santorum may LOSE Montgomery County this time
I live in neighboring Bucks County, but I also lived in Montco for some years.

There is a lot of Democratic insurgency in Montco. The Montco GOP has known about it since at least 2000. They've promised low taxes and free guns, but have delivered tax boosts and higher crime. And Bush is the final insult.

Incidentally, the some of the Kulicks are friends of my family's, mainly via my mother and her friends. Yes, many of them are staunch Republicans, but not all of them. And many of them left the fold after John was killed. I guess they didn't like being lied to, then played for whores.

21. I happen to live in Montco,
and I'm not in total agreement. There may well be an increase in Democrats in the county however the county Democratic Party is still very poorly organized and will not be able to match both power or money in the near future.

This is a mid term election. The fact that Santorum is running for re-election isn't enough of an impetus to get voters to turn out especially in the Democratic strongholds of Norristown and Pottstown. If you look at the makeup of the Commissioner's they all come from the older, established areas. I doubt that'll change anytime soon.

22. Those are good arguments
The actual course of the election will depend on how strongly the party faithful can fight the change. But there are a lot of pissed-off people in the area, which is always a wild card in an election.

Bucks County is also poorly organized. I look at it as a good sign that Andy Warren, a long-time moderate Republican who was faithful to his party, recently quit in disgust and called last month for Bush to be impeached.

But you're right, it's not a done deal. I do think that even in the case of a Republican win, it's going to be a very sphincter-tighening experience for the Montco GOP.

27. From the Phila Inquirer. It's not too difficult to see their strategy.
"He really has a comprehensive understanding of the dangers... facing us," the ex-N.Y. mayor said.

Campaigning with Rick Santorum in Blue Bell yesterday, former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani urged Pennsylvania voters to return Santorum to the Senate, saying his fellow Republican had used his leadership to protect the country against terrorist attacks.

"The number-one concern of the federal government is national security," Santorum said. "It has to be."

Santorum spoke about U.S. policy toward Syria, the fight against "Islamic fascism" and his support for the war in Iraq.

He also spoke about the nuclear dispute in Iran, where, he said, "if we do not succeed on the diplomatic front, our options are not particularly attractive."

18. It occurs to me...
... that we may be looking at this a tad bit backwards. Maybe Giulliani isn't trying to suck up to the social conservatives... maybe Santorum is trying to suck up to the moderates as a way to bloster his crumbling campaign. After all, he *has* been dodging Bush recently whenever he's been in town. It's possible, at any rate.
