DeLay a star at 'War on Christians' conference
DeLay a star at 'War on Christians' conference
Participants told indicted politician is being persecuted

There are those who would say Tom DeLay lost his job as House majority leader because he was indicted by a Texas grand jury for money laundering and conspiracy, or because of his extensive ties to lawbreaking lobbyist Jack Abramoff. But they would be wrong.

In fact, the Texas Republican fell from power because he is a Christian.

<snip>

But when it came to providing evidence about this war on Christians, the examples were a bit stale. Don Irvine of the conservative media watchdog Accuracy in Media led off. He cited a "Jesus freaks" slur by former CNN boss Ted Turner (from 2001), a CBS employee's description of Bauer as a "little nut" (1999), a columnist's description of "Taliban-like" conservatives (2002) and a radio report linking conservative Christians to the anthrax attacks (2002).

Irvine's most recent example was an item Monday in USA Today taking issue with the name of the "War on Christians" conference. "I'm so relieved that USA Today has found this wonderful religion reporter," Irvine said, neglecting to mention it was an op-ed by somebody not on the paper's staff.

*********

Funny, they didn't use Jack Ambrohoff's emails talking about them being crazy as one of their examples...

2. hahahahahahaha
That's why they call it "Accuracy in Media". . .

For godsakes. . .if there is one thing this country needs, it is to build a huge number of insane asylums. These fruitcakes should have been committed the first day they stood in front of a television camera and started trippin' about anything that could talk a hatemonger into sending them cash. . .

The kind that forms out of the debris of a supernova's explosion? He doesn't qualify as a Black Hole, to be sure. Dubya is the only current model of that. Or maybe the Dubya/Cheney binary: two Black Holes dancing around each other, each consuming the other's mass and gravitas....

Aren't metaphors FUN?!!

15. No one was at war with "christians" until they decided to take
over the government and went to war against the middle class and the poor. We are just defending ourselves. I no longer attend my church because they no longer care about anyone but themselves. Greed and hate rule in the name of the Lord.

18. Ok, fair enough. So Liberals may not be the most "religous"...
...individuals in the traditional sense. Fine. Guilty. But, turn on Fox News and you'll see Gretta, Sean, and the others
parading Mark Fuhrman (Remember him?) all over Hell's half-acre, saying things like, "Mark, good to see you
my friend. Come back any time." Now, if we've declared a war on Christians (and of course we haven't), what
kind of war have Conservatives started?

21. Fuhrman new neocon hero?
Oh, my. I didn't realize that about Fuhrman. While many are aware that in one of his last books Fuhrman nailed Michael Skakel, a Kennedy cousin, it's not widely known (yet) that in his upcoming book Fuhrman will attempt to prove that JFK was killed by Lee Harvey Oswald acting alone, blah blah blah. If he's really buddy-buddy with Fox news, and the Christian right, this may be more than a coincidence. I'm disappointed in the ole racist. With his book on Skakel, I thought maybe he'd turned over a new leaf and was just trying to get at some truth. Instead, he may have joined Team "Forget the Promise of the Sixties and Blame Everything Bad That Happened on the Left." Asssassinating the character of the Kennedy brothers and erasing any significance to their deaths could very well be part of the neocon agenda. Karl Rove, with his Nixon worship, certainly hated the Kennedys.

20. DeLay wraps himself in God but denies his own alleged criminal behavior

DeLay says Christians are under attack

by SCOTT SHEPARD, Cox News Service, posted on Wednesday, March 29, 2006

WASHINGTON - Invoking the "glory of God," former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay urged religious conservatives Tuesday to stand against an American culture he described as hostile to Christianity. "Our faith has always been in direct conflict with the values of the world," DeLay, R-Sugar Land, said in a speech at the War on Christians conference. "We are, after all, a society that provides abortion on demand, has killed millions of innocent children, degrades the institution of marriage and all but treats Christianity like some second-rate superstition."

The conference was sponsored by Vision America, a Houston group founded by the Rev. Rick Scarborough, a key organizer of "values voters" in the 2004 presidential election.

Quoting extensively from the Bible and religious writings, DeLay agreed with conference organizers that "of course, there is a war on Christianity" in America today. But "no matter how cowardly the evil before us may be, it is nothing compared to the power and glory of God," he said.

Scarborough, former pastor of the First Baptist Church of Pearland, alluded to DeLay's legal difficulties and offered encouragement as DeLay left. "God always does his best work right after a crucifixion," Scarborough said.

DeLay has been indicted on conspiracy and money laundering charges linked to fund-raising activities by his Texans for a Republican Majority political action committee. The conspiracy charge was thrown out by a state court, but prosecutors have appealed in an attempt to get it reinstated. He has denied any wrongdoing.

These religion-into-law neo-cons are such hypocrites! Indeed. Citing God and behaving otherwise. When will the Republican Party working class Christian rightwingers wake up? Since when did Jesus mandate such blind and hypocritical self-righteous behavior?
