Gay Father Wins Custody Ruling

Gay father wins custody ruling
Montgomery County man gains the right to live with his partner and raise son

March 29, 2006

A gay Maryland father who was forced to choose between custody of his son and living with his male partner has won court permission to reunite the household.

On Monday, a Montgomery County judge ended the four-year-old cohabitation ban set in place by an Alexandria, Va., court. The 2002 ruling awarded custody to the father, contingent upon his partner moving out. The couple moved to Maryland, which is considered friendlier to same-sex couples.

"To me it is just horrible, shocking, that they had to go to these lengths to live together," said Susan Silber, one of the lawyers for Karl Ulf Hedberg, the father. "What is quite amazing is the family persevered for this long."

The son is now 13.

Legal experts say the case will reverberate through the gay community nationwide.

"There are many other families who are living under the burden of these discriminatory restrictions and many other children that are being hurt, and I am sure we are going to see more cases like this one," said Shannon Minter, legal director for the National Center for Lesbian Rights in Washington, part of Hedberg's legal team.

9. I Just Finished Reading An Article In The Nation About Robert George
A so called conservative scholar who established a conservative "think tank" at Princeton. His entire agenda can be summed up in three words and it is neither conservative or scholarly... GOD HATES QUEERS. The most bizarre quote in the article is this: "The gay and lesbian movement...have unloosed a great moral agitation in our culture." OKIE DOKIE Bobby (I pretty much feel I am on a first name basis with a person after they've shown me the inside of their rectum)why don't I get my Hubble telescope read between the lines BullShit detector and translate that quote for you because it is obvious you are deeply deeply in denial.

Here goes "The gay and lesbian movement...have unloosed a great moral agitation in MY PANTS."

Vigorously Fought -- Tooth and Nail

11. My Youngest Son Came Out To Me When Ben Was In The Hospital
Edited on Wed Mar-29-06 08:51 AM by Binka
Actually it was no surprise I had known for 19 years, it took him a bit longer to figure it out. He is a beautiful and brilliant 20 year old lefty with a heart of gold. He will NOT be denied the life he wants to live if I have to come to town swinging a mother fucking baseball bat.

I almost miscarried Peyton when Bush stole the 2000 election, Bush tried to assassinate Ben in Iraq, they better keep their hands off Ian. I am fucking pissed!

My Beautiful Boy. (Edit: I left out a word!)

12. you're right he is a beautiful lad.
binka -- i think there is a lot to be worried about.

the assault on gay adoptions worries me quite a bit because i think it's a disguise on the assault on marriage equality.

the insane right wingers have been very successful attacking reproductive rights by going after it in bits and pieces -- so that now we are in a dangerous limbo.

your child benefits on the one hand from the struggle -- but i tink new and dangerous frontiers are opening -- keep your ball bat at hand.
