Crist for abortion ban, adoption incentives
March 23, 2006

PENSACOLA - Attorney General Charlie Crist would sign an abortion ban similar to South Dakota's if elected governor, he said Wednesday before announcing proposals to increase adoption and protect children from Internet predators.

Asked by a Catholic priest whether he would sign a bill like South Dakota's abortion ban, which only allows the procedure to save a woman's life, Crist answered, "Yes, I would."

But Crist later said the South Dakota law, set to go into effect July 1, is too restrictive, and he would sign a ban only if it also allowed abortions for victims of rape or incest. Crist added, "Promoting a culture of life is preferable to me than passing laws."

Under Crist's proposal to give people incentives to adopt children, those who adopt a child privately would receive $3,000 a year for three years. Families who adopt foster children would get $5,000 a year until the child turns 18.

1. Left wing men also want us to think they're being PRAGMATIC
when they try to tell us to vote for woman hating, antichoice candidates in the name of party unity.

I tell them to go piss up a rope. There is NO WAY I will ever vote for a woman hater. Period.

It's very easy for MEN in general to consider this a right that can easily be discarded in the name of winning some sort of team contest.

Sorry, guys, but that's where the line is. Abandon us and you'll lose half the party.

4. Don't Apologize Sister...
If they don't support choice, then they ain't left wing men (and they ain't much of a man either)...and telling them to piss up a rope is mild compared to what I tell them...

In solidarity!!!

6. During the Roberts & Alito
process I recall many posts telling us to relax, not to worry; abortion rights would never be curtailed, RvW would never be overturned. I'm worried not only for my daughter and future granddaughter(s), but for all my sisters whose reproductive rights and control of their own body and destiny is threatened.

3. Here's the response from the DEM candidates
Davis, Smith On Crist And Abortion

On a noon conference call touting his 67-county campaign team, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jim Davis jumped on Charlie Crist's statement that he would sign a ban much like South Dakota's recently passed law. Davis said he would veto such a bill in Florida.

Davis: “I believe politicians should stay out of the difficult, personal decisions about life and death that Floridians and their families face every day. It was wrong when our state leaders played politics with the tragic life of Terri Schiavo, and it’s still wrong."

Nearly four hours later, Rod Smith's campaign jumped on the same issue: "I am absolutely committed to protecting a woman's right to choose," Smith said in a statement. "As Governor, I will lead the fight against legislation like the South Dakota law, as well as any efforts that seek to criminalize women and doctors. I firmly believe that personal decisions should be just that - personal."

5. Republicans: the party of wanting to have it both ways
Sounds like Crist was for the SD law, before he was against it.

13. What a Controlling Fundie-Freak!
Trying to make a Baby-Racket out of forced-birth!:grr:
Does anyone know how many people out there become foster parents just for the money?

Now this Crist-Freak is going to put certain people in the position to adopt unwanted children
just for the money!
Then the kids get neglected and abused (I've seen it)

So Crist thinks he can guarantee every unwanted child will be out of the hands of a child-predator???

Seriously, what a Fucking Idiot!!!!:freak::crazy:

9. People already get adoption subsidies if they adopt foster kids
At least they do in Michigan. It's good for encouraging foster parents and relatives to adopt foster kids. I don't think we should be paying people to adopt privately, or for the new-baby adoptions, or it comes close to being a baby-selling business. Then you get people adopting kids who should never adopt kids, greedy people just in it for the money.

10. Chain Gang Charlie is in a tight primary with Tom Gallagher
Gallagher is running as a far-right Christian conservative. Charlie has had to move to the right.

14. You know what I like about "adoption incentives"?
They encourage people to adopt who wouldn't do it unless they were paid. Super idea :sarcasm:
