Mixed reaction to Bush Iraq comments
GOP may pay price in midterm elections, some analysts warn

WASHINGTON -- Military analysts said yesterday that President Bush's signal that US troops may remain in Iraq beyond his presidency reflected the reality on the ground: A long, hard fight against a still-robust insurgency.

But Democrats, seizing on the growing unpopularity of the war, vowed to use Bush's comments to make the case that the president has lost control of a war he initiated.

''The rhetoric indicated that it would last maybe six months. They were so optimistic about everything instead of being realistic about anything," said Representative John Murtha, a Pennsylvania Democrat who voted for the war but now wants to pull out.

But if Bush does not push for a quicker withdrawal, ''there are going to be a lot of Republican seats in danger," Murtha said.

5. Kick in the crotch
I think most people viewed that comment as a kick in the crotch. The average person hoped that Bush would find some way out and that things would get better and that the troops would come home soon in phases. Bush's comment was in response to whether the US is building permanent bases in Iraq.

6. Over reported over emphasized
That is the party line on W admitting that he had no plans to pull the troops out of Iraq. They are again technically right in that he was answering that question but sorry...you live by the sound clip you die by it too. Sorry try again next time.

7. Do any thinking people believe that the USA EVER intended to leave Iraq??
.
.
.

Building bases like crazy while Baghdad languishes in uncontrolled violence.

USA is there to stay

Iraq is the USA's "Hawaii" in the ME

Just another military centre to control another part of the globe

They ain't leaving Iraq

Just like they never left Japan and Germany

Project for the New American Century is alive and well

(sigh)

8. Exit strategy?

"The terrorists want to control the oil. Our way of life will be at risk". George W. Bush (Nov. 2005)

Bush Regime Iraq Successes (Phase 1)

1. The Iraqi Regime will no longer sell Iraqi oil via the Euro.

2, A military foothold in the ME. other than Saudi Arabia.

3, No countries will be able to buy Iraqi oil that the U.S. disapproves of.

4. Slowing production of Iraqi oil garners more profits to US Oil Corps.

5.The Military Industrial Complex is a booming Industry.

Phase 2

“Iraq: Permanent US Colony”

Iraq: Permanent US Colony
By Dahr Jamail

t r u t h o u t | Perspective
Tuesday 14 March 2006

“Why does the Bush Administration refuse to discuss withdrawing occupation forces from Iraq? Why is Halliburton, who landed the no-bid contracts to construct and maintain US military bases in Iraq, posting higher profits than ever before in its 86-year history?
Why do these bases in Iraq resemble self-contained cities as much as military outposts?”
