2 barge workers killed
Victims were pumping water

GULFPORT - Two men demolishing the hurricane-ravaged Grand Casino Gulfport barge Tuesday died after being trapped in a part of the barge that had collapsed during Katrina.

The men, who had not been identified late Tuesday night, were part of a marine team working with PRC Environmental, the Houston company demolishing the Gulfport barge and the Grand's Biloxi barge. They were in a tight space pumping water out of the vessel at the time of the accident.

Construction crews told authorities they called for help when they realized the men never came back up and they got no response when they tried to contact them. Dozens of Gulfport firefighters, police officers and paramedics with AMR converged on the scene shortly before 4 p.m. to begin the tedious search.

nola.com said the men were trapped in 6 feet of water but then seem to have removed the story

i hope for more info later, they may be trying to clarify

what a sad chapter in the story of this beautiful resort that represented so much good times to so many of us

4. Thanks.
I posted that before I left for work this am. Just now checking back.

It must be pretty creepy to swim around in the carcass of a casino. It was creepy just standing outside of the damaged hulk of the Copa.
