Carlos Santana Speaks out against Bush
LIMA, Peru - Carlos Santana quoted his old friend Jimi Hendrix in an anti-war message here Monday and said his philosophy is the antithesis of President George W. Bush's.

"I have wisdom. I feel love. I live in the present and I try to present a dimension that brings harmony and healing," the 58-year-old rock icon said. "My concept is the opposite of George W. Bush."

Santana, speaking to Peruvian journalists ahead of a Tuesday concert, said young people's opposition to the war in Iraq is reaching the dimensions of the anti-Vietnam war sentiment in the 1970s.

"There is more value in placing a flower in a rifle barrel than making war," he said. "As Jimi Hendrix used to say, musical notes have more importance than bullets."

5. He was in a furniture gallery where my sweetheart works the other day
She had no idea who he was.

This is a very cool store in San Rafael and my girlfriend is a consultant there.

He stayed quite a while talking to her about some tables he wanted.

As he was leaving, he asked her if she had a card so he could call her.

She handed him her card and introduced herself, "My name is Beth".

He said, "I am pleased to meet you, my name is Carlos".

carries them still in their stock. They almost got rid of them a few years ago but have since realized that there is a small revival in vinyl. They had a decent amount in back storage. When I am visiting a friend in that area I can just call them and they will have the needle waiting for me.

They said that they can order them but that they are getting harder to find.

(Google search brought up this site. Hope it helps! http://www.everythingradio.com/turntable_needles.htm)

52. No, that is her opinion....
...opinions are not facts, hence I used the word "arguably", because it is debatable. No where did I state he is unequivocally the greatest alive.

But he is a Master, as are many, and an argument could be made for those to. So to say he is "hardly" even to be considered, is a weak opinion.....in my opinion.

Not by a long shot.

I can think of many guitarists as good or better than Santana.

Clapton
BB King
Knopfler
Garry Moore
Robert Cray

51. Fair enough
The thing I respect the most about Santana is he hasn't lost his edge at all. His playing is still as crisp and smooth as it was in 1969. You definitely can't say that about all guitar players his age.

8. "placing a flower in a rifle barrel " -- remembering Kent State
Hey, this is a reference to the anti-war demonstrations at Kent State in May of 1970. (I was there.) "Flower power" and all that was a part of the late-'60s/early-'70s. :hippie: There were photos taken at the time, as some of you will remember, of a student placing a cut flower (a daisy, I think) into the barrel of an ROTC soldier's rifle. A great, enduring symbol of anti-war sympathies in grass-roots America.

I'm happy to see that Carlos Santana remembers this image. But that was Vietnam and this is Iraq. Today's enduring symbols are Abu Graib torture victims and Bush on the destroyer celebrating "Mission Accomplished." :grr:

I don't think the reference to Hendrix's "musical notes" will go any distance in these times. Back in May of 1970, 2 days after the flower was placed in the Ohio National Guardsman's rifle, 4 students were dead and 9 wounded -- a result of demonstrating on campus, in opposition to a Republican governor up for re-election on a law-and-order platform. (hmmmm, this sounds familiar....)

41. SMOOTH, Carlos.....very smooth....
Man it's a hot one
Like seven inches from the midday sun
I hear you whisper and the words melt everyone
But you stay so cool
My Munequita, my Spanish Harlem Mona Lisa
You're my reason for reason
The step in my groove

And if you said this life ain't good enough
I would give my world to lift you up
I could change
My life to better suit your mood
Cause you're so smooth

CHORUS:
And it's just like the ocean under the moon
Well that's the same as the emotion that I get from you
You got the kinda lovin' that can be so smooth
Give me your heart, make it real,
or else forget about it

I'll tell you one thing
If you would leave it'd be a crying shame
In every breath and every word
I hear your name calling me out
Out from the barrio
You hear my rhythm on your radio
You feel the turning of the world
So soft and slow
Turning you round and round

And if you said this life ain't good enough
I would give my world to lift you up
I could change
My life to better suit your mood
Cause you're so smooth

CHORUS

Or let's forget about it
