Oleg Cassini, the Designer Who Dressed Jacqueline Kennedy, Dies
John and Jacqueline Kennedy's Camelot gained some of its magic from famed designer Oleg Cassini, the fashion icon who created the First Lady's graceful, elegant look. Cassini died Friday at age 92 in a Long Island hospital, said his wife, Marianne.

4. I agree...
The story link now has links to photos of Jackie's clothes.

I told a woman in her 20s about Oleg's passing and she said, "Who?" Nothing like a young person to remind me how very old I am. But at least she knew who Jackie was.

5. You think that's bad? When I was 25 I had a few dates with Cassini.

I didn't really know who he was, I just thought this good-looking guy who asked me out to lunch was just SO elegant the age difference didn't matter - that was sometime in 1980-81. Now I am almost as old as he was then.

Ah well.....RIP elegant gentleman.

8. I was a midwest sports-type who just moved to NYC at the time.
I'm sure I wore something casual. The only social grace I had was politeness, and I knew NOTHING about fashion or the social world. He kept remarking on my looks and I'd keep saying simple thankyous, and finally, out of exasperation, he asked me if I had anything to say about him in return, and I said " You have really nice hair."

After a few dates where I really didn't understand much about the ways of older men, I think he just gave up on me. LOL

After that, I did have many adventures and social experiences that made for a more interesting life, but never ran into Mr. Cassini again.

11. I can see it...
I'm visualizing that scene where he's fishing for your compliments. I love it. I read an article about him last night that discussed his playboy side. He sounds like someone out of a movie. I didn't know till I read that article that he'd been married to Gene Tierney (spelling?) (he married her twice), or that he'd turned Grace Kelly from a bit of a frump (hard to imagine) into an elegant icon.

10. Wow, you must have been a knockout then for
him to pay attention to you. He was married to Gene Tierney at one time as well as other strikingly attractive women.

17. To be honest that pic is me at 40 or 41. I've had a child since then
and the 15 extra pounds that go with having a baby late in life.

13. the links @ the end of the
article go t2 some of the clothes he designed for Jacqueline. Look @ those works of art. then picture pickles in her latest wal-mart polyester slacks & white blouse.

We really DO need a return of grace and style in this country. (and I'm talkin' more than clothes. Style is 85% attitude). We are so hopelessly wallowing in mediocrity and the lowest common denominator.

14. He wrote a book
It was sometime during the 1990's, and it was about his time as Jackie's designer with lots of pictures and anecdotes.

I believe his brother was the famous society gossip columnist Cholly Knickerbocker.

I agree with you, xxxqqqzme. What a lovely, gracious time that was.

16. I couldn't agree more - the corporate media now applauds coarse speech
and has worked to convince the public that they don't WANT leaders who speak to their reason and intellect, that they want leaders who speak to the part of them that has been dumbed down.

I hope more Dems unite to expose this as a tactic that INSULTS the American public. I certainly don't want Dems to adjust to doing the exact same thing.
