Senator (Lieberman) takes issue with challenger's tone
http://www.newsday.com/news/local/wire/connecticut/ny-bc-ct--senate-lieberman0316mar16,0,1183192.story?coll=ny-region-apconnecticut

By ANDREW MIGA
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman took issue Thursday with the tone of his Democratic opponent's campaign.

Ned Lamont formally announced Monday that he will oppose Lieberman for the party's nomination, becoming Lieberman's first Democratic challenger since he first won election to the Senate in 1988.

Lamont has blasted Lieberman for his support of the Iraq war, calling him, "Republican Light." During his kickoff speech said that unlike the senator, he would never be called, "Bush's favorite Democrat."

"This shouldn't be about one issue or about name calling ... angry name calling," Lieberman told the Associated Press Thursday. "I don't think the public wants that."

80. Run a TV ad showing LIEberman kissing GW Bush
That was a state of the Union night.

It was worse than McCain hugging W.

Show that with the phrase "Bush's favorite Democrat".

George W. Bush shouldn't have a "favorite Democrat", and if (insert challenger's name here) wins, Bush won't have one.

Too bad Lieberman is out of touch with that concept in some areas - to the extent that his good deeds cannot hope to make up for the damage his support for, say, illegal wars and weakening the separation of church and state causes.

93. so does this CT Dem-when has Lieberbush ever come to meet his
constituents that it hasn't been a $1000/plate breakfast (or more) over the past decade? Lieberbush just can't believe he'll have to defend his record of supporting * and maybe have to do some campaigning to prove he's worth keeping in the Senate, which is certainly debatable.

What's more, Lieberbush regularly ignores my many emails and phone calls, sending me only canned email answers like, "Thank you for your message, I always like to hear what my contituents have to say...sign up for regular emails like this canned response."

I called his DC office one working day at 4:45 pm and a phone machine took my message---I guess that's too late for him and his staffers to work, while the rest of America is struggling to pay basic bills and working a lot later than 4:45.

Off rant now.

12. There was a time when a Democrat like Lieberman was OK.
Back when the other side was somewhat reasonable and bipartisanship a real possibility. Those days are long gone. Now attempted compromise with them means they totally dominate, giving no quarter. Joementum doesn't get it and never will.

We cannot afford guys like Lieberman representing our side if we ever hope to control the governance of our country again.

55. Okay then, fair enough Joe, let's not make it about ONE issue..
Let's make it about your enabling of the chimperor's agenda. Let's make it about the Iraq war and your failure to do anything to stop it. Let's make it about Chief Justice Roberts, or Scalito, or your failure to join in on ANY criticism of the pretzeldent's illegal wire-tapping.

See, it's easy, we'll make it about just those FIVE issues.

Fair enough?

Because we know how you stood your ground in defense of the Constitution on ALL of those issues, right Joe? We KNOW how you were the ONLY Democrat brave enough to challenge the mis-administration when they broke the law, right Joe? And we KNOW that you bravely led the charge to call the mis-administration to account for the lies it told leading this country into an unnecessary war, and the spine-tingling rhetoric you used to lambast the mis-administration's mis-steps and outright failures to deal with Katrina, right Joe?

Why don't we make it about those issues Joe? You know, the ones where you stood up for the rank and file of YOUR party and said 'Enough!' The ones where you went against the tide and stood out like a shining beacon of light to proclaim how things were going horribly wrong under the present regime but you would stay true to your principles and protect the common man.

Oh wait, you can't do that can you? Because you were too busy NOT ruffling feathers. You were too busy kow-towing to the republican agenda. You were too busy rushing to get your pat on the back from Sean Hannity, or to have your happy-smiling face photographed next to the president guffawing like old hunting buddies. You weren't there to do those things were you? Nope. Not once.

You are an embarrassment to the Democratic party Joe. The only difference between you and Zell Miller is that Zell Miller isn't pretending to be a Democrat anymore. So so us a favour and give back that (D) beside your name, and run in the republican primary instead. At least you'd be guaranteed one vote, from your number one fan. Sean Hannity.

58. "I don't think the public wants that." They don't want LIEberman either.
What a jack ass. He's like those bad guys on cheesy wrestling shows. They pound the good guy with a chair or something then get on their knees in the corner and beg for mercy when the good guy is about to kick their ass.

LIEberman is a big baby. He promotes war that kills many people, injures countless more, and ruins our country. He jumped on Clinton for sex with Lewinsky but extols Bush for war on Iraq (and America).

I hope he's retired, officially.

"War is hell," he said. "War is difficult. War is controversial. The administration has done some things that have not helped to really explain the war to people."

Oh, so that's what it is? We'd "understand" the war if only it were EXPLAINED better to us?

Joe, what part of "illegal occupation" don't you understand? Time to go, Joe.

How did this guy get on the ticket to be VP in 2000 anyway. It couldn't have been the Dem voters, thats for sure. Must have been the power blocks working politics that got him in power to begin with.

The guy has never been for 'The People'. Unless 'The People' have a lot of money.

110. This election should be about one issue only: Iraq
Every Dem who supported the invasion\occupation should be held to account. Note that this even includes John Edwards, who seems to be the object of some affection here for his liberal social policies.

As Harry Truman once said, "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen." (I think it was Truman who said that.)

115. LIEberman DISTORTS His Record....
From a posting on Crooks and Liars...

"For his part, Lieberman is taking his first-ever primary challenge seriously. His campaign Web site prominently features his lifetime voting records from such left-leaning groups as the AFL-CIO (82 percent), NARAL (95 percent), the Human Rights Campaign (90 percent) and the League of Conservation Voters (88 percent), which has already endorsed him."

"Yeah and if you go back to 1977 Joe never voted to authorize the war in Iraq, either. The fact is that Joe's 2005 NARAL voting record is 75%, and that doesn't even include his cloture votes on judges that put both both Roberts and Alito on the Supreme Court. Nor does it take into account his recent comments telling rape victims to get up off the gurney and leave Catholic hospitals in order to get emergency contraception (which the hospitals will not even tell them they need). NARAL may not be willing to speak out against Holy Joe but to imply that they are 95% happy with his record is 100% bullshit."
