Four Men Found Hanged in Baghdad Slum

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- Police found four men dangling from electrical pylons Monday in a Baghdad Shiite slum Monday, hours after car bombs and mortars shells ripped through teeming market streets, killing at least 58 people and wounding more than 200.

The grim scene underscored fears Sunday's bloody assault on a stronghold of radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr would plunge Iraq into another frenzy of sectarian killing.

1. "another frenzy of sectarian killing."---but not yet a civil war.

2. This is a seriously disturbing trend...last week, I wish I had the link...
a bus was found with all the passengers hanged.

Oh I think it was on the blog "today in Iraq".

3. I was wondering whether it indicated a shortage of ammo,
or a desire to make a more public example (or both, I suppose).

4. Probably more of a public example.
I would think the length of time to hang someone (just to kill them) does not really fit into the fast-paced timeline of civil war, particularly when a knife would be quicker and easier if bullets were unavailable.

7. Is this the "success" Bush has been looking for?

To create as much of a hellhole as anyone can imagine?
God/dess help us.

<snip>

The bodies of four men suspected of involvement in the blasts hung from pylons, residents of the Shi'ite Sadr City district said. Police said a sign left by the bodies, bearing gunshot and torture wounds, read: "These are the traitors".
