Report: N. Korea fires missiles — by mistake?

TOKYO - North Korea may have mistakenly fired two ground-to-air missiles near its border with China on Wednesday, a Japanese news report said, citing unidentified sources.

Security sources believed Pyongyang launched the missiles by mistake "in the direction toward China," the Kyodo News agency reported.

The exact time of their launch and where they landed was unknown, Kyodo said.

Japan's defense ministry refused to comment, saying it could not disclose information on specific activities. But Japan "constantly monitored the military activities of neighboring countries," a spokesman said on condition of anonymity, citing regulations.

Kyodo quoted an unnamed defense official as saying the launches "did not threaten Japan's security."

Reports from Japan say North Korea has test-fired two short-range missiles near its border with China.

Nippon Television Network quotes officials from Japan's Defence Agency as saying the ground-to-ground missiles were fired on Wednesday.

The report says the missiles travelled about 5 kilometres and landed within North Korean territory.

A spokesman for Japan's Defence Agency says it is "aware" of the reports.

An official at the Japanese foreign ministry says it has no information on the launches.

In 1998, North Korea test-fired a long-range missile over Japan, which landed in the Pacific Ocean.

... and the US is screwing around with Iran? :eyes:

1. No need to worry about North Korea......
After all, several years ago they promised to halt their nuclear program. That's good enough for me!
