Pak millionaire held in Guantanamo says bin Laden described himself as ‘prophet’
(AP)

5 March 2006

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - A Pakistani millionaire held at the US prison in Guantanamo Bay testified that he met Osama bin Laden twice, and that the Al Qaeda leader called himself “a prophet.”

The testimony of Saifullah A. Paracha was included in thousands of pages of transcripts released on Friday by the Pentagon because of a successful Freedom of Information Act lawsuit by The Associated Press. The material was also made public last year in court filings by Paracha’s lawyer.

Paracha, a New York Institute of Technology graduate, testified in English. He said he owns seven businesses, including a news agency, a construction agency and a manufacturing company in Pakistan and travel agencies in New York, Chicago, Washington and San Francisco.

Paracha said he did not know under which law he was arrested, and that none of the charges against him were valid.

11. Did you see The Colbert Report last week? He showed a clip from...
..."The Big Story," a lame show on Fox "news," had this weird "Falcon Hunting" guy on?

The video is at this link: <http://www.comedycentral.com/shows/the_colbert_report/videos/most_recent/index.jhtml>

It's the one labeled "Colbert Report: Falconry Camps"

It might be near the end of the clip, I'm streaming something else right now, so I can't watch it right now to say for sure.

Bush junta imprisonment--prisoners held for years without charge, isolated from outside contact, their names unknown, tortured and sometimes killed, and--recently revealed--anonymous prisoners whisked off on black flights to secret torture dungeons in eastern Europe and points east, has all along been a means for the junta to destroy, punish and extract information from business enemies, and from witnesses/potential whistleblowers to Bush junta business crimes. The junta's pervasive domestic spying without a warrant also raises this suspicion--that's it's business enemies and in this case also political enemies that are the target, not "terrorists."

Their rotten to the core, extralegal prison system may be business-related on the global scene, with domestic spying being its U.S. corollary. There is certainly a lot of evidence that the Bush junta is involved in illicit arms dealing and other filthy business around the world, and that its rich corporate and individual supporters are criminals in the first degree, with the oil giants freely ripping off Americans after Katrina (and ever since), Halliburton and other war profiteers stealing billions, the sleazy Saudi royals cozied up to the White House in bed with the president--and apparently the UAE royals as well--and with the mountain of domestic Bushite scandals as the tip of the iceberg (both treason scandals--Traitorgate, AIPAC/Franklin--and financial scandals--Enron, Delay*, Ney*, Cunningham, Abramoff, all of Ohio, and if Sibel Edmonds ever gets to testify, a horrendous scandal of bribery of US Congressmen by Turkish interests and other revelations).

They have mountains of corruption to cover up. How convenient, on the global scene, to have seized carte blanche in imprisonment and torture, to take care of hostile business interests, witnesses and potential whistleblowers in societies where individuals don't have much protection and can be 'disappeared' without much ado, combined with vast domestic spying to gain blackmail material and put together secret dossiers for the destruction of business and political 'enemies.'

Imagine this, then: A RIVAL of Pakistani millionaire Saifullah A. Paracha, who is close to the government, and has done some black bag jobs for the Musharraf/Bush cabal, wants the return favor of having Paracha 'disappeared' and his financial empire destroyed. He is whisked away on a black flight to nowhere, held without charge for years, and tortured until he 'confesses' something (he met OBL--so what?--IF it's even true), and thus is rendered helpless and anonymous, at the mercy of Bush-directed sadists. His meeting with OBL, if true, might even contain tracks to the Bush junta--facts that may have been erased from his brain via repeated torture. Who knows what's behind this man's outrageous and illegal detention? But I don't think we should assume that mere random torture and humiliation of Muslim men is the sole purpose of these crimes, or that these crimes are in any way aimed at protecting Americans from "terrorist" attack.

We often, in trying to parse Bush junta information (as brought to us by our war profiteering corporate news monopolies), can't see the forest for the trees. We generally ACCEPT that, because these are Muslims being held without charge and tortured, they must have SOMETHING to do with "terrorism," and SOMETHING to do with national security, even if "mistakes" have been made (some "innocents" caught up in the dragnet, unable to defend themselves because of a complete lack of human rights). But what if this secret prisoner system has all along had a completely different purpose? Covering up Bush junta crime around the world?

Think about "the forest" for a moment. Turn this around the other way. What would people who are thieving TRILLIONS of dollars from US coffers, who are destroying our government, who have unleashed all manner of corporate thieves to prey upon us, who engineer stolen elections to retain power, and who lie through their teeth every day, about everything--from justifications for war, to budget numbers--people who are running guns and nukes all over the world, people who were, at best, asleep on 9/11, WANT in an extralegal prison system, and what would they want it FOR? (And what would they want unlimited domestic spying for, as well?)

-----------------------------------------

*(--not to mention the scandal of electronic voting that these two (Delay, Ney) cooked up, with the $4 billion HAVA electronic voting boondoggle, giving two rightwing Bushite corporations control over the vote tabulation with 'TRADE SECRET,' PROPRIETARY programming code, and no audit/recount controls (not even a paper trail required), no controls on partisan vendors, no controls on lavish lobbying and "revolving door" employment, no controls on secret industry 'testing' of the machines, and underfunded regulators. Result: vast corruption and insecurity in our election system for 2004, and, most important of all, complete non-transparency.)
