Homeland Security Operations Center director resigns

The Homeland Security Department said March 2 that its operations director — who oversees a center singled out for criticism in the House report on Hurricane Katrina — will resign.

Matthew Broderick, the director of the department’s operations directorate, will leave March 31 to spend more time with his family, according to a statement. Broderick created and ran the Homeland Security Operations Center in Washington, which is intended to be a round-the-clock office to manage incidents and share information among all levels of government and federal agencies.

But the House Katrina report said the center “failed to provide valuable situational information to the White House and key operational officials” during the storm. As a result, officials including President Bush and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoffdid not have timely, confirmed reports that New Orleans’ levees had failed, the report said.

Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke said that Broderick’s resignation had nothing to do with the House report and that he decided to leave on his own.

2. Just for giggles...
I think it would be fun to do followup stories on everybody who resigns to "spend more time with their family," and actually find out if they're spending more time with their family.

4. Isn't it interesting that this guy is resigning...
* and Chertoff didn't get valuable situational information from the center.....Seems to me that once again responsibility doesn't touch these guys.....

This proves that * and Chertoff are failures as managers...if they were really concerned they would have actively persued the information knowing the immensity of the storm....They did not care.....they were indifferent....
