Roving through Ohio (Rove to release all attack dogs in Ohio this year)
http://www.cleveland.com/weblogs/openers/

Ohio Democratic Senate candidate Sherrod Brown says he's heard from "all kinds of people in Washington" that President Bush's political mastermind, Karl Rove, "is going to unleash all his attack dogs in Ohio this year."

The congressman from Avon says he's not sure what that would entail, "but I can guess it is not going to be pleasant."

Republicans don't deny it. White House spokesman Allen Abney declined comment on Rove's possible role in upcoming Ohio elections, while Republican National Committee spokesman Aaron McLear accused Brown of making accusations to distract voters from his "out-of-the-mainstream" voting record.

It wouldn't be a stretch for Rove's chief deputy, Barry Jackson, to focus on upcoming Ohio elections. Jackson, former chief of staff to newly minted House Majority Leader John Boehner, is an expert on Ohio politics, as well as an architect of the 1994 "Contract with America" that helped Republicans win control of the U.S. House of Representatives.

smear attacks, etc. And why would we expect anything less?

34. with those machines, expect us to lose all eight of our house seats
Edited on Fri Feb-24-06 08:52 PM by Tiggeroshii
...in ohio and not win that senate seat. We need to desperately focus on nondiebolded areas. If the Dems or a third party go full throttle on those ares then we could knock out as many vulnerable nonmechanical districts as we can. If we focus on the northeast and California the way Rove focuses on Ohio, I bet we can get our "contract with America" by a landslide WITH the Ohio losses to machines.

But who would think of going this far?

-majorly edited for clarity

2. It does seem that zealots go bonkers when they see power
So much power is at hand that it is really hard to stop the zealots. Look at history for the pattern on this. Say the Japanese with China in the 30's. They were so sure they had the country that they went nuts. They even got away with what they did in Nanking. Even FDR went over the line and had to pull back. It just seems to be a thing with any one who gets power. John Adams knew that and it was one reason they used this round about way to gov. Bush must have been on the cheer leading team the day they had to read about it. Even Adams had trouble with it and he knew the game.

3. Uh oh - a vote of no confidence in the "Patriot Pastors" in Ohio
you know, the group of far-right religious zealots who raise Bushco up to idolotrous levels and has promised to "deliver voters" to the polls... afraid that won't be enough to overcome the Pay to Play image of the GOP machine in Ohio? Afraid that won't overcome the distaste of a major Ohio congressman being under the microscope for serious corruption ala Abramoff? Interesting how much GOP *fear* this little announcement demonstrates.

10. ohio threatens to be a tough battle ground
so rove decides to expend considerable energy there -- this is to pave the way for 08 if he's successful.

has any presidential candidate ever won without ohio?

the repukes need to concentrate on retaining power of at least the house -- control of the money, doncha know.

17. I think it's time to come up with hip commercials of how the right is
mind controlling people. I saw this great commercial that ran abroad where one person meets someone and regurgitates words into the other guy's mouth, and it goes on and on like that. The kids will love it.

You can also make a hit by showing clips of how Ralph Reed used the Christian right for economic and political benefit.

Get a snazzy slogan like, "It's time to think for yourself, America needs you."

27. Much as I disagree with Shumer and Reid
asking Hackett not to run, they are not in a class with Rove. They obviously thought that a primary fight could hurt - even though I think that as long as it remained civil, it would actually have helped. (Consider how much better it would have been in 2004, if the primaries were spread out longer - the primaries did more to give people a view of John Kerry (and the other candidates) than anything else, except the convention and the debates.

More importantly, it is undemocratic to discourage people from running. But, the ultimate decision to withdraw was Hackett's - Shumer and Reid had no ability to make hime withdraw. Look at the 2004 Presidential candidates - clearly the party's choice was Lieberman at the beginning. They did dry up contributions to some alternative candidates, including Kerry, who was also scoffed at by the press. He didn't give up. Dean, when he started was clearly not the party favorite (though he at one point got many endorsements, he didn't give up. Kuchinich stayed in with absolutely no hope of winning.

Hackett chose to leave the race.

24. Considering the way repukes do things...
is this really a suprise. Looks like Brown should get an award for the understatement of the year ""but I can guess it is not going to be pleasant."

There are more than a few Ohioans who will be distracted by the repuke framing of Brown as having a "out-of-the-mainstream" voting record. This should be worrisome to Brown. He needs to counter this at every turn. I have seen some of his comments and he is reframing this issue but you do not see it in the papers or on the news here in SW Ohio which should not be a suprise to anyone considering the right-wing bent of the new media here.

31. If they accuse him of "voting out of mainstream", he should counter with:
Yes..."mainstream" to the republicans these days seems to be lies, money laundering, fraud, extortion, treason, obstruction of justice.... and yes, Democrats ARE voting out of THAT "mainstream". Democrats are trying to call for INDEPENDENT counsels to fight the corruption.

25. Well, not exactly ALL the dogs
As one of the big dogs seems headed for the pound.

TOLEDO -- Thomas W. Noe, the coin dealer and prominent Republican contributor whose $50 million state coin investment sparked one of the biggest scandals in Ohio state government history, was indicted today on 53 felonies, including theft of more than $1 million.

The charges include engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, 11 counts of theft, 11 of money laundering, 8 of tampering with records and 22 of forgery. He could be sentenced to a maximum 175 years in prison, although such a sentence is considered unlikely.

...

Noe, who was recognized as a "pioneer" for raising $100,000 for Bush's re-election, and his wife have given more than $150,000 in campaign contributions to various GOP candidates and groups over the years, records show.

A host of politicians from President Bush and Taft to a Lyndhurst city councilman have since set the contributions from Noe aside in an escrow fund at the bureau or given the money to charities.

Noe, known for being charismatic and generous, never graduated from college but used his popularity and connections to land appointments to prestigious boards including the Ohio Board of Regents and Ohio Turnpike Commission.

Hmmm, never graduated college. Just like Karl Rove(r), who seems to have been his trainer.

The emails also revealed that Noe attended an "Ohio political strategy session" with Ken Mehlman and Collister "Coddy" Johnson, Bush's campaign manager and field director. Karl Rove was also listed as a possible attendant of the meeting. At the time, Noe's wife Bernadette was an elections official in Lucas County Ohio, an area that experienced extreme voting difficulties during the 2004 election, causing Secretary of State Ken Blackwell to ask for her resignation.

Oh yes, the wife-bitch Bernie, since ousted from being an "offishyl", also runs the dog pack.

But perhaps the most striking event directly linked to Ms. Noe was what Weghorst described as a note-worthy incident relating to security on the evening of the election.

Weghorst, who was present at a local warehouse where ballots were being tabulated, says in his report that two groups of partisan volunteers totaling approximately twelve people" arrived, whose "purpose for being there was not immediately known nor requested."

When the volunteers refused to leave the premises, Weghorst called the police, who then escorted the group away from the warehouse. It later emerged they had come at Ms. Noe's request.

A Diebold employee, Robert Diekmann, was also present at the warehouse that night.

It's pretty clear who lets the dogs out.

32. Why has Karl Rove not been indicted
Scooter Libby was indicted last fall, if his trial is to start at the speedy pace of January
2007 for a crime that occurred in July of 2003, it seems to me that if Karl was indicted
by next fall, his trial would start, oh possibly by December 2008. This is
ridiculous. Justice delayed is Justice denied.

35. Keep your greasy carcass OUT of my state, Pigshit.
It's bad enough we have Ken BootBlackwell referring to the State as "God's House". It's bad enough we have Ron Hood trying to keep homosexuals from adopting. It's bad enough we have a mowron like Bob Taft assholing up politics without care. Now Pigshit's going to soil it even further by spreading dirty trickery in Duh-HIGH-Ah's electorate.
