Israel fears harm to ties with Jordan due to comments by IDF commander
http://www.haaretzdaily.com/hasen/spages/686167.html

A cloud hovered over Israeli-Jordanian relations after a senior Israel Defense Forces commander on Wednesday expressed uncertainty regarding the future of Hashemite rule in Jordan.

GOC Central Command Major General Yair Naveh noted that at least 80 percent of Jordan's citizens are Palestinian and said that, due to regional threats including Hamas' rise to power, King Abdullah is liable to be the last Hashemite monarch to lead the kingdom. He also warned of the creation of an "Islamist axis" that could topple the regime.

These comments, which Naveh made during a lecture in Jerusalem, caused fury in Amman, and Jordan threatened to reduce official ties with Israel.

1. I seriously doubt that Israel gives a damn about what Jordan thinks...
After all, for many years, Likud leaders have insisted that Jordan is the "Palestinian homeland," and that, therefore, Palestinians should leave "Judea and Samaria" (i.e. the Occupied Territories) and settle there.

Of course, that alternative might have looked like the best-case scenario for the Israeli right back when Fatah was presumed to be the eternal political force among the Palestinians. The thought of a country the size of Jordan coming under Hamas control might make them a tad more nervous.

2. I guess you might not know as much as you think.
"Israel issued hasty explanations and apologies."

You are aware the Likud is a political party, and has lost much of its power in recent months, yes?
