Chertoff was to testify about his department's response to the disaster that hit the U.S. gulf coast last summer after former federal disaster chief Michael Brown told the committee last week homeland security was too preoccupied with a possible terrorist attack to deal with natural disasters.
The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee did not immediately reschedule the hearing but a spokeswoman said they were working with Chertoff's office to set it up again soon.
