Iranians hurl petrol bombs at Austrian embassy

TEHRAN, Feb 6 (Reuters) - A crowd of about 200 people pelted the Austrian Embassy in Tehran with petrol bombs and stones on Monday in a protest over the publication of cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammad.

The protesters, chanting "God is Greatest" and "Europe, Europe, shame on you", smashed all the diplomatic mission's windows with stones and then tried to hurl petrol bombs inside.

Austria currently holds the presidency of the European Union. Protesters also waved placards and shouted slogans against the EU's stance on Iran's nuclear programme.

The bombs exploded in flames against metal grilles guarding the windows. But the building did not catch fire and the flames were quickly put out by police with fire extinguishers.

6. You think they wouldn't do it?
Hell, the only thing stopping them is that in the US they'd actually be arrested.

5. Chalabi and Richard Perle's Iranian equivalent of the Iraq expatriots
are busy stimulating fear in the most liberal countries in Europe, it seems.

What was that program of Rummy's to stir up 'unrest' in Iran against the government? They really, really want this Iran war, step 2 in the PNAC plans.

If I wanted to get the UN and Europe to go along, and I were a conscienceless neocon like Michael Ledeen who said that 'no region deserved to be a cauldron more than the ME', I would ask my Iranian arms dealer friends and their Iranian contacts to start a few demonstrations in Iran attacking those foolish Liberal European countries to scare them into helping me out.

I might even suggest that we paint a few of our planes to look like UN planes and have them fly over Iran causing them to shoot at them and get the UN all upset ~ or maybe forge some documents and plant them in Iran to make it look like they are building WMDs.

They learned how hard it is to plant WMDs successfully from the Iraq debacle, but planting documents is way easier.

I believe NOTHING anymore. Too many lies told to get the Iraq war going. It wouldn't be too difficult to get a demonstration going with people in Iran who are legitimately angry at the US for their constant bullying and stated intention of attacking yet another Muslim country.

However, those who have any intelligence in the moderate Muslim world would not give the US reason to invade Iran.

Chalabi types, expatriots and Iranians who would be richly rewarded after the war, would very definitely want to provoke fear in the hearts of Europeans and Americans to get them to go along with the neocon plans to attack Iran.

7. aim sorry to say
you sound a little bit like you think you are a superior human spices your self.. telling that all this non-intellectual and stupid europeans as much as most the truly hurt muslim, cant tell anything from right or wrong, and that all this people your mentioning here are stupids that is being deceived by Bush in all terms.

I remember ones a time I my self was saying "hallo" and smiling friendly to all "immigrants" I met in the street, until one day someone told me, that in fact I was myself being "racist" in my acts by doing so, I was putting them, of my good tensions, as some sort of helpless poor people that I felt I must acknowledge my sympathy with. But in fact I was giving them "special" treatment, and that is not solidarity ... I think that we in Europe in most cases or educated enough to decide our political stands by voting as you are in US, and happened to be like the fact that we here at the moment is having more a liberal-stand whether we like it our self or not, but we are not being hold as hostage in our icnorence... I think!

10. Hi, welcome to DU :-) but I think you misunderstood my post ~
I was being sarcastic. What I said is what the Bush administration thinks about Europe, not what I think.

I know how educated and intelligent Europeans in general are.

It may have been a language problem, although your english is very good. :-)

I agree with everything you said. I know very well that we are not superior by any means. Bush and his supporters think they are superior. I am NOT a Bush supporter ~ but I know how they think and they hate the fact that Europe would not join in their war in Iraq.

I am sorry I did not make it clearer ~

I think you'll find that most people here have a great deal of respect for Europeans ~ and we are not very happy with our government right now!

Glad you're here ~ :hi:

17. That's okay ~ I am sorry that this is happening in your wonderful
country.

I just read that a British Member of Parliament who is Muslim, wants the police in Britain to arrest those demonstrators who are causing these problems.

He asked why they were not arrested on Friday ~ I agree with him. Arrest them. I was surprised too that they were not arrested.

They are committing crimes. Maybe the Danish government also should arrest the perpetrators and get Moderate Muslims to speak out against those extremists who are responsible.

Do you think that would cause more problems?

12. Uh, guys? White people may look all the same to you, but Austria is a long
damn way from Denmark.

Don't like Europeans? Then maybe all the European countries should shut down their fucking embassies and go home. Oh, and stop trading with you as well, by the way.

So, you want all the other countries in the world to treat you like you're a civilized nation, when THIS is how you act? When most countries have a spat with another country, they TALK to the other country's Ambassador, not try to burn him alive.

I've had about enough of those people. Fuck 'em if they don't know how to act.

Redstone

(And before you all start in on me; NO, this doesn't mean I think we should bomb or invade them.)
