14 US House Reps Want Bush Impeach Probe
14 US House Reps Want Bush Impeach Probe

17 Total Call for Bush to Resign or Be Impeached

by Matthew Cardinale
Editor, Atlanta Progressive News

February 1, 2006 / The number of US House Representatives who have signed on to H. Res 635–supporting a probe looking into the grounds for impeaching Bush–has jumped to fourteen (14), including US Rep. John Conyers who initially sponsored the bill, Atlanta Progressive News has learned.

The total number of Members of US Congress who want Bush’s impeachment or resignation is actually seventeen (17), including 14 co-sponsors of H. Res 635, plus US Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) who called for Bush’s impeachment over wiretapping, and US Reps. Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) and Bobby Rush (D-GA) who have called for Bush to step down.

The 14 members who have signed on to H. Res. 635 are Rep. Neil Abercrombie (D-HI), Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Rep. Lois Capps (D-CA), Rep. Wm. Lacy Clay (D-MO), Rep. Sheila-Jackson Lee (D-TX), Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA), Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Rep. Major Owens (D-NY), Rep. Donald Payne (D-NJ), Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY), Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Rep. Fortney Pete Stark (D-CA), Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), and Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-CA), according to Thomas.loc.gov.

Seven members added their names yesterday, January 31, 2006, while one of the erstwhile co-sponsors–Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA)–withdrew her name citing a clerical error.

Lofgren’s Office advised Atlanta Progressive News last week that US Rep. Lofgren first learned she was listed as a co-sponsor after Atlanta Progressive News issued an article in December 2005. Her full statement is cited below.

20. All we have to do is force the judiciary committee
to conclude that vine swinger broke the law. They make the referral and it's the duty of the House to start a resolution of inquiry.

28. Yea, the same way we've all seen the second report on
the 9/11 inquiry, huh? They got themselves all in a tizzy when the Dems shut down the Senate to gorce them to issue it, but that was quite a while ago, and I know I sure haven't seen the results!

I don't really think we need to discuss "The DUTY of the House". They ignore the rules, ethics, and laws. Why do you think they'd follow this one?

50. The phase 2 is being held up
because they're waiting for a report from the Pentagon who is doing an investigation on Feith, the fact that he pocketed intelligence he didn't like. The Pentagon is insisting that they investigate themselves and supposed to be issuing a report to the committee.

That's what they're allegedly waiting for.

14. John Conyers talked about that attitude at his recent town hall
The same could have been said about Nelson Mandela. What could be a bigger exercise in futility than sitting in prison serving a life sentence, thinking about how you'd run the country if you were elected president?

Other folks who specialized in exercises in futility: Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr.

66. Exercises in futility? How about that little pipsqueak with the slingshot
against the big-ass invincible fearsome giant Goliath? Some puny little nobody named David, who went on to be one of the heaviest of the heavy-weights in the Old Testament.

How about the photo of that one single Chinese guy standing in front of a ferocious, daunting-looking line of battle-ready armored tanks? ONE guy, all by his lonesome, and he stood there in the way of that line of tanks - and they didn't go anywhere.

Think of that single Arabic nomad whose piety and fervor founded one of the world's GIANT religions.

Think back, earlier than him, to the poor, bearded nobody with the motley crew of a dozen other bearded nobodies - who was tortured and killed for His activism. Look what HE started.

If nothing else, think of that silly old ant who thought he could move the rubber tree plant...

These things DO happen. Nelson Mandela WAS rotting in jail for more than two dozen years. Ultimately became PRESIDENT. Mohammed was just some guy. Jesus was just some carpenter's kid.

8. Would H.Res 635 be the same as a resolution to conduct an inquiry?
I was looking at this scenario and trying to figure out where this would fit in.

The House Judiciary Committee considers the charges and adopts a resolution to conduct an inquiry.
House of Representatives passes the resolution by a majority vote.
The House Judiciary Committee conducts the inquiry or investigation into the crimes.
The House Judiciary Committee approves articles of impeachment by a majority.
The House of Representative debates each article and passes at least one with a majority vote. Bush is now officially "impeached".

33. Sure seems like that, doesn't it? But our Lois is a blond...
... and judging from her Xmas cards, her kids and grandkids all take after her.

As to the Congressional Black Caucus, they've had my unqualified support ever since they were the only ones willing to tackle the 2000 Florida coup d'etat as a voting rights issue.

And they've been on the right side of so many issues ever since then that I really have the feeling they speak on behalf of the country as a whole, not just their black constituencies -- which when you think about it is how Congress is *supposed* to act.

13. What similarities to Nixon's plans to seize Saudi Oilfield in '73
does Bush's invasion of Iraq have ? Was this 'on the drawing boards' for all these years with only Republican presidents in favor ? The similarity is so close you have to ask yourself these terrible questions.

Was war 'planning' so stale and so concretious (since 1973) that our DOD was hellbent to do this war despite changed circumstances ? Dinosaurs like Cheney would have wanted this stuff, but where were their heads at ? In a timewarp ?

17 Dems step up to the plate, hurrah! But it won't be enough to energize the masses unless the corporate media carry the story to INFORM the people. And we know that isn't going to happen.

These Dems ought to pool their resources and buy ad space in a major paper or magazine. I'd suggest buying a 30-second commercial spot on tv but we've seen broadcasters refuse to air such things.

In fact, I may call his office, locally, again. I used one of the TOLL FREE Capitol Hill Switchboard numbers before, to call Washington. Most of 'em are in my sigline here...

Anybody who's even HALFWAY predisposed toward our side on this HAS to be called, emailed, petitioned, and otherwise nagged like crazy until they join up. No rest, and no peace about this, until they do.

67. Well, fine then. Let the games begin. Let's US buy and own some of
these people, too. Last time I tried it, I wound up buying myself a brand new Congresswoman from South Dakota (Stephanie Herseth) - and I'm in California. I don't mind these people being bought and paid for - as long as they've been bought and paid for by us Good Guys. If THAT is how the game's played, then let's get in and play it to our advantage. Especially in some of the littler races where maybe not as much machinery money is being poured in because most of the big guns will be trying to prop up people like tom delay and rick santorum. Look for somebody maybe a little more out-of-the-way. May not cost nearly as much - far more bang for your buck! Every additional Democrat, no matter from where, is ANOTHER ADDITIONAL DEMOCRAT in there, instead of another republi-CON. In Herseth's case, I think she's the ONLY congressional rep for her state.

68. Now I'm sure you're a dem because you stand for certian values
Like that our first Amendment remains, and that we aren't locked up in secret prison while our treasure is looted.

My point above is that we woulnd't be in this position if the dems didn't help. They help by keeping their head down. Remember Farenheit 911 where it would take only 1 senator to help the house of representatives investigate and fight the 2000 elections. Well gee, not one signed.

We lost nearly half the dem senators on the Alito fillibuster.

Having more dems won't help us if they are bought by corporations. The corporations have more collective monies than we do. We need some honest people whose greed won't come out and screw us over. Since Dems are dropping people from the party who can't come up with millions in Election donations, it's not likely that we are going to come up with honest people anytime soon.

I stand for dem values but I don't stand behind any dem that's selling me out to Bush's values.

The republicans are stronger as a party because they don't care if their crook is selling them out. They just want to win. The dems are divided because we keep having crooks to lead us. A crook gets paid to do what they're told. That includes not fight bills going by. Obviously we've got a lot of dems not fighting.
They may as well stamp approval on the issues. I'm fairly certian after watching this, they're crooks too.

69. Doesn't matter. They'll go where the money is, and at least some of
that money should be OURS.

YES, nobody stood with the Congressional Black Caucus in its efforts to challenge the vote count in Selection 2000. You're quite correct. Painfully so.

BUT...

Remember Barbara Boxer. She evidently has a conscience because she recognized, albeit too late, that she could have stood up with them then. So, when it came time to do it again after the theft of the 2004 election, there she was - in all her glory - standing there with the Congressional Black Caucus in their second consecutive challenge. They FINALLY had somebody. She stood up with them because she regretted having not done so four years earlier. Besides, she put out the word that if enough people urged it, she would step up and be counted. Apparently she was DELUGED, SWAMPED, nearly DROWNED in emails, phone calls and pleas from constituents AND nonconstituents all over the country. She got MORE than enough calcium supplement to brace her backbone. And she went out and stood with 'em, and they got heard (well, at least nominally) and their concerns HAD to be addressed. She did it because WE found a chink in the armor and went for it with every prying, chiseling, and wedging tool we could find. She was ripe for the picking, and we made sure there were LEGIONS of eager pickers. She's not alone, either. Just one of the least timid anymore.

I think that's a condition that, Lord willing, can be exploited and expanded as the months go by. Especially as bush does NOT rebound like Lazarus from his lousy poll numbers, and there may be something to entangle (and distract) rove with the Fitzgerald efforts (that have NOT gone away, thank you very much), plus the Jack Abramoff business that also is only going to get bigger and nastier, and the death toll from Iraq, which unfortunately will NOT be shrinking anytime soon. Those things will wear away further at bush and republi-CON solidarity. You just watch as hurricane season starts up again in about four months or so, and the Gulf states are nowhere near recovered from the last one, and all they have are lots of "wish sandwiches," since bush made all those high-fallutin' big-ass promises for lots of mega-bucks - NONE OF WHICH has happened (just like he did with New Yorkers after 9/11). You watch. As we get closer to the election, you watch as more republi-CONS politely decline offers from bush to come campaign for them. You watch.

Meantime, we can not afford to grow complacent, OR apathetic. And we sure as hell can't get discouraged and give up!!!

DON'T GIVE UP!!! Sure, they may have locked the front door and the back door and the side door, and maybe all the ground-floor windows. But they didn't get the vents, the air conditioning ducts, the basement windows, the attic windows, or any other little cracks and breaks - perhaps deemed too small or inconsequential to shore up. Hey, if mice and termites and wind and rain and other moisture can get in, SO CAN WE.

40. Can any in Congress dispute this?
“Secondly, there are such things as roving wiretaps. Now, by the way, any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires -- a wiretap requires a court order. Nothing has changed, by the way. When we're talking about chasing down terrorists, we're talking about getting a court order before we do so. It's important for our fellow citizens to understand, when you think Patriot Act, constitutional guarantees are in place when it comes to doing what is necessary to protect our homeland, because we value the Constitution.”

President Bush -- April 20, 2004

Yeah, fat chance of that happening!

47. If you want this to work, get out there and help elect dems this year.

This will work, and we WILL impeach Mad George. If and only if we can take back the congress this year. That means that if you want to see that happen, it's up to you to get out there and support your dem running for house or senate this year. Give money, man the phone banks, go door to door, whatever you can do will help. If you don't help it won't get done.

It's the personal responsibility of each and every one of us who wants to get rid of this bastard and all his cohorts and enablers to work our asses of at the grass roots level to elect democrats this year. The future of the nation depends on YOU.
