Police Officials Say Vulnerabilities Remain, Even After 9/11

WASHINGTON, Jan. 20, 2006 — - The nation's top law enforcement officials warned today that al Qaeda may have plotters already inside the United States.

"We have to assume that there are persons out there that want to attack us," said FBI director Robert Mueller.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said police chiefs have been told to review all the intelligence the federal government has given them in the last two years about al Qaeda tactics.

The police chiefs in the nation's two largest cities say they are most worried about commuter trains and airports.

I was briefed during the cold war by a senior FBI counter intelligence agent. He told me that they knew where every single russian agent in the country was located and what they were doing every day. Sure there were screw ups from time to time, but they involved isolated individuals not a task force of twenty Saudi saboteurs. The latter eventually should actually have had an infinitessimally small chance of success had they not receive inside help from the cheney-bush clique.

The old FBI didn't put the entire population under surveillance, they just followed the suspects around when they entered and left the country. The agent expressed complete confidence in this national security measure and saw no need to turn the country into a police state to protect it from its enemies.

His agencies program didn't even cost a billion dollars.
