White House Lobs Accusations at Gore
By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer
Tuesday, January 17, 2006
(01-17) 14:37 PST WASHINGTON (AP) --

Former Vice President Al Gore and the White House traded accusations over national security Tuesday in a dispute that also pulled in President Bush's other presidential election rival, John Kerry

But at the time of the Ames search in 1993 and when Gorelick testified a year later, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act required warrants for electronic surveillance for intelligence purposes, but did not cover physical searches. The law was changed to cover physical searches in 1995 under legislation that Clinton supported and signed....

"His charges are factually wrong," Gore said in a written statement Tuesday. "Both before and after the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act was amended in 1995, the Clinton-Gore administration complied fully and completely with the terms of the law."

Kerry said Tuesday that he agrees with Gore and that Bush has "definitely" broken the law. He said it's difficult to get recourse with the Republican-controlled Congress.

1. OMG!!!.....Kerry supports Gore???.....Is this a first folks?
Unfortunately, Kerry never has had near 1/100th of the
passion Gore has.

But, hats off to Kerry for some sort of support!

4. Kerry was only Dem Senator to speak for Gore's position in 2000 recount.
Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 06:27 PM by blm
on the news shows.....Or didn't you know that?

Kerry was also trying to investigate and expose IranContra when Gore was siding WITH Reagan/Bush contra policy - Gore later turned around AFTER Kerry came up with the evidence proving their crimes.

Kerry worked on BCCI pretty much alone with the entire Dem estabilshment trying to stop his investigation.

Kerry needed media to focus on BCCI while Gore grabbed all the headlines he needed for his dirty song lyrics hearings.

I would bet that AL Gore today WISHES he had spent some passion and energy supporting Kerry's crucial work. Al Gore today sees what BushInc is capable of.

Why would anyone post against Kerry when it's completely unwarranted and further....makes one sound as if they know nothing about real, recent history while making their uninformed attacks.

5. everyone knows about that kerry/bcci stuff.
because Kerry just would never shut up about it during the debates. Everytime the repubs tried to paint Kerry as soft on terror, there he was, front and center, going on and on about how he took down the "Terrorist's Bank". It's something that I'll never forget.

Oh wait, never once did he mention BCCI during the Presidential debates. My bad.

6. Point was that Kerry supported Gore many times in the past while
Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 06:54 PM by blm
it seems damn few Dems supported Kerry when it was CRUCIAL to do so.

Kerry mentioned BCCi only a few times during the campaign probably because NO DEM PUNDIT would go there. DNC wouldn't go there. Too harmful to Clinton's legacy, since it was Clinton who chose to close the books on it. And too many in the leftleaning media didn't even know enough about it to know that Kerry uncovered all those BushInc crimes in the first place.

Who comes to a thread where Kerry supports Gore and uses it to dump on Kerry with falsehoods, anyway? Why doesn't THAT bother you?

15. He did in the University of Philadelphia speech on the terrorism
Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 11:58 PM by karynnj
This was his major speech on the issue. He also mentioned it in the New York Times article. During the first debate he mentioned having succeded in going after the money trail when he was listing what he would do differently.

I would assume that some of his hesitancy to mention it was that it could be twisted by Bush to say that Clinton/Gore should have followed through on his written suggestions when his committee was taken away. (Number 1 of which was that Khan had financed his bomb via BCCI and they should insure that he wasn't selling technology.)

They are two honest decent human beings and either one would have made a damn fine President. America is worse off for their losses.

19. really interesting question - haven't heard anything yet. Lieberman is
usually good on judicial and criminal matters. I don't see how he can side with Bush on this one, and doubt he will.

10. Kerry has shown the way. Will other Democrats come out of
their hidey-holes and back up Gore? I am no rabid Kerry fan, but the man stood up and kudos to him for it. Kerry has supplied the example and the cover, now let's hope the rest of the Democrats step up and do their jobs. Thank you Mr. Kerry and Mr. Gore. Who's next?

11. the truth
I hope this news gets out on all the MSM channels. Just now, on Nightline, the lie Gonzo and Scottie told was repeated as the though true. I'm so sick of the lies that aren't countered. I guess the Repugs tell so many, it's hard to keep up and jettison them all.

White House Disputes Gore on NSA Spying
2 Groups File Suit to Close Program

By Peter Baker
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, January 18, 2006; Page A06

On a day that evoked the presidential campaigns of 2000 and 2004 -- and perhaps that of 2008 -- Bush's chief spokesman lashed out at former vice president Al Gore for "hypocrisy" and at Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) for "out of bounds" criticism. Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) joined the fray by accusing Bush of breaking the law.

The American Civil Liberties Union and the Center for Constitutional Rights filed separate lawsuits yesterday asserting that Bush exceeded his authority and violated Fourth Amendment guarantees against unreasonable searches and seizures by ordering the National Security Agency's surveillance.

On Monday, Gore accused Bush of "breaking the law repeatedly and insistently," and called for a special investigation. Gore, who lost the presidency to Bush in 2000, was seconded yesterday by Kerry, who lost in 2004. "It is a clear violation of law," Kerry said on CNN.

McClellan also returned fire against Hillary Clinton, who in a speech Monday called the Bush administration "one of the worst" in history. She also asserted that Republicans run the House as though it were a "plantation," in which the opposition has no opportunity to advance contrary views.
