Bush senior hopes Pakistan still sees US as helper
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/DEL190065.htm

ISLAMABAD, Jan 17 (Reuters) - Former U.S. President George Bush, in Pakistan as a U.N. earthquake relief envoy, said on Tuesday he hoped Pakistanis would continue to see Washington as a helper despite civilian deaths in an American airstrike.

Bush was asked in Islamabad if he thought the deaths in Friday's strike, which have dented some of the goodwill generated by the prominent U.S. earthquake relief role, showed shortcomings in the U.S.-led war on terrorism.

"No I don't," the father of President George W. Bush, said, while adding it was for others involved in the war to comment. "I am here as a representative of the (U.N.) secretary general to try to help with the relief and reconstruction effort.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, addressing the same news conference, called the loss of lives "one unfortunate event" in a long-standing relationship with the United States.

(end snip)

So is Poppy there to clean up for Junior, or overcome Kerry being there last weekend, or hammer the Pakistanis in line with the aide (money) hammer, or all of the above?

2. it's just disgusting
"surgical air strikes"

These people are absolutely incompetent to be in the CIA, and to be involved in this war at all.

I heard the apologists this morning going on about 'war is hell' and 'acceptable collateral damage', immediately following 'we acted on highly precise information'.

They are truly, deeply, profoundly stupid. It's like having a bunch of ugly fourth graders running the country.
