Chronicle poll shows DeLay support waivering

A criminal indictment and continuing investigations have severely eroded support for U.S. Rep Tom DeLay in his district, most notably among Republicans who have voted for him before, according to a Houston Chronicle poll.

Only half of those who cast ballots for DeLay in 2004 said they would do so again. And while 25 percent still aren't sure whom they will vote for, 18 percent have defected to other candidates.

Responding to the poll today before details were released, DeLay's spokeswoman said the result is "contrary to the strong support were seeing for Congressman DeLay throughout the district."

The poll of 560 registered voters in the 22nd Congressional District was conducted Tuesday through Thursday amid perhaps the roughest period of DeLay's political career.

10. Ya think?
God, I hope so. Still it is somewhat discouraging to see that he has managed to retain the support he has. WHO THE FUCK ARE THESE PEOPLE????? DeLay is the poster boy for EVERYTHING that is wrong about politics today and there are sill people out there who still support him. Support him enthusiastically. Are they brain dead?

Are there a huge number of people in Sugar Land TX who have undergone lobotomies and are incapable of independent thought?

Somebody please explain this to me. This guy is poison. Why anoyone still likes him is a total mystery.

You have stations in Houston that won't air anti-DeLay ads, and DeLay will benefit from light turnout in the primary.

But I think he'll step down after the election, sometime next year, if he's not convicted first.

Let CBS have at it!

Who, outside of The Usual Suspects of Self Flaggelating, Drug Addled, Shoe size IQed sniveling, bed wetting MoonBats has watched "60 Minutes" in the past twenty years?????

Michelle Malkin doing an Investigative story on Ronnie Earl for The Washington Times or her Blog would draw bigger numbers and more useful information and leads.

Jack.

Hmm..."60 Minutes"..that name sounds familiar, but I can't quite place it. Oh yeah: I know! It's that stopwatch thingy that comes on Sunday nights to let me know that the 4pm football game is over and it's time to turn to ESPN for the evening game. Other than that, it ain't worth spit.

18. Troubles erode DeLay's support in 22nd District

criminal indictment and continuing investigations have severely eroded support for U.S. Rep Tom DeLay in his district, most notably among Republicans who have voted for him before, according to a Houston Chronicle poll.

Only half of those who cast ballots for DeLay in 2004 said they will do so again. And while a fourth of the 2004 DeLay voters still aren't sure whom they will vote for this year, almost 20 percent have defected to other candidates.

Responding to the poll this evening, DeLay spokeswoman Shannon Flaherty said the result is "contrary to the strong support we're seeing for Congressman DeLay throughout the district."

The telephone poll of 560 registered voters in the 22nd Congressional District was conducted Tuesday through Thursday amid perhaps the roughest period of DeLay's political career.

28. It's worse on the ground.
Just an FYI. We blocked walked this weekend in DeLay's district. We were able to hit about 100 homes. Only one person said he supported DeLay. ONLY ONE! The others were either very supportive or seemed like they didn't want to admit their were not voting for DeLay.

It was VERY VERY interesting! I'm going back out tomorrow!
