President asks Senate to quickly confirm Alito
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2006-01-14-bush-radio-address_x.htm

WASHINGTON (AP) — ...

Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., said Friday in the waning minutes of Alito's confirmation hearing that unidentified Democrats will "exercise their rights" to put off next week's scheduled vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee. Democrats say they won't be ready Tuesday to vote on his nomination since Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid of Nevada has called on party members to hold off making a decision until after a meeting Wednesday...

Bush argued that Alito had acquitted himself well during the hearings. He said the nominee's wife, Martha-Ann Bomgardner — whose departure from the testy confirmation hearing in tears elicited bipartisan sympathy — had exhibited "patience and dignity" during the process...

Likewise, the Senate's 55 Republicans are expected to line up strongly behind Alito.

The 44 Senate Democrats and one independent have been mostly silent about their intentions. Their liberal supporters plan to work senators hard to ensure as many vote against Alito, who they say will be likely to swing the court to the right.

2. I think *
is trying to push Alito in fast so that, when his illegal wiretapping comes before the court, Alito will swing vote in his favor.

29. Exactly. This president never asks senators to do anything.
He orders them to do so.

9. Don't get your panties in a twist dubby
Matters of this importance take time. The crying wife has nothing to do with Alito or his possible rulings. The Senate really needs answers on this alleged racist and bigot.

Somebody ought to tell the monkey to mind his own business. This is the Senate's business and as of yet he has no control of them. And I hope he never will be Thee Unitary President.

10. "Alito acquitted himself"
This whole administration seems in the business of letting itself off the hook for criminal wrongdoing. How about we hear from a witness or two who isn't the nominee and find out whether he was telling the truth or not? I know that's probably beneath the dignity of a sitting federal judge, you know, to be quizzed on whether or not he was truthful under oath, but as they say, Mr. Alito has a track record of a less-than-absolute fealty to the truth.

Let's get a little more information, and take a little more time, shall we?

Sen. Durbin: U.S. Deserves Honest Leaders
WASHINGTON - America deserves honest leadership in Washington to replace the current Republican-dominated government, Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois said Saturday in the Democrats' weekly radio address.
.....
In his broadcast, Durbin made several references to civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., who was slain in 1968 and would have turned 77 on Sunday.

Durbin said that in his last book, King wrote: "'There is nothing wrong with power. The problem is that, in America, the power is unequally divided.'"

That's true in Washington today, Durbin said...

Edited on Sat Jan-14-06 12:27 PM by Triana
Yea, I think, with the other DUers, that bu$hit wants Alito confirmed in time to get him off for his crimes RE: wiretapping and the hundreds of others he's committed in the past 5-6 years.

Alito = bu$hit's diaper (ass cover) - wants Alito in there before the proverbial shit hits the legal and constitutional fan.

13. The "move on...nothing to see here" Shrubco tactic.
Which is EXACTLY why we need to deep digger in Alito's record (and his wife's "instability" which would cause her to burst into tears at such minor stress)??

Come on, let's fight light 'Pugs...for once in our Dem lives!! And in doing so, finally USE the "F" word ("Filibuster") for as long as it takes.

Fight on!
