Second suspect arrested in murder of 'Times' reporter
WASHINGTON (AP) — A second suspect in the beating death of veteran New York Times reporter David Rosenbaum was arrested Friday night and charged with felony murder.
Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., greets Virginia Rosenbaum, and other family members of New York Times journalist David Rosenbaum.

The suspect, Percy Jordan Jr., is a cousin of Michael Hamlin, who was arrested Thursday and was also charged with felony murder in Rosenbaum's death. Metropolitan Police Department Sgt. John Johnson would not comment on whether Hamlin gave his cousin's name to police or whether Jordan had confessed.

Earlier Friday, Rosenbaum was remembered by journalists and lawmakers as a quiet hero of his profession.

Rosenbaum, 63, died Sunday, two days after he was beaten and robbed in his usually quiet Northwest Washington neighborhood.

1. No mention of the black sedan
Early reports on this mentioned that police were looking for a black sedan seen leaving the neighborhood at the time of the crime . . .

I wonder if anything came of that, or if they are still looking for it?

4. This is from early reports.
I just wonder if they are still looking:

WASHINGTON - District police now have a lookout for a dark colored vehicle that may be linked to the killing of New York Times journalist David Rosenbaum.

Captain C.V. Morris says the two men seen inside are considered persons of interest.

This whole thing seems a little weird frankly. This first guys comes to the police station to see why he's on TV? Did he forget he was using a stolen credit card? I guess people do that sort of thing.

"Michael Hamlin, 23, of Washington, saw one of the broadcasts and went to the 7th District police station "inquiring why his face was on TV," Metropolitan Police Detective Anthony Paci said. Hamlin arrived at the police station around 6:20 p.m. and confessed to the crime shortly thereafter, Paci said.

Earlier, investigators released surveillance videos showing a man who may have used a credit card stolen from Rosenbaum. "

5. Good Point..
and Welcome to DU!!! :hi:

That's weird...as well as the fact that nothing, except the wallet, was taken in the mugging (jewelry, cel, etc.)...and Rosenbaum was the NYT editor that broke the Alito CAP admission, among others...

Maybe some of the late Sirica's friends from the old neighborhood took care of the problem ;-)

9. People do this sort of thing all the time

This guy used the stolen credit card before Rosenbaum died. The card began to be declined on Saturday; Rosenbaum didn't die until Sunday morning. They card was used almost immediately at a gas station, and then used for $1300 in purchases on Friday night and Saturdfay during the day. As a former credit card fraud investigator, I can assure you that this kind of usage fits the standard pattern for a credit card theft.

Now, the guy's face was captured on camera. This often happens, but the authorities usually don't request the tapes unless there is a serious crime behind it. In this case, once Rosenbaum died, the tapes became relevant. So they start showing them on the local TV. Mr. Hamlin has two choices: he can either run, or he can try to talk his way out of it. He opted for the latter. This is not at all unusual. He tried to talk his way out of it, then realized he was trapped by the evidence. At that point he began to try to angle for a lesser charge. Again, none of this is at all unusual for a homicide investigation. He probably put the murder on his cousin and downplayed the attack, looking for a murder 2 or manslaughter charge.

To believe this was a hit, you'd have to believe that the hit men boinked Rosenbaum on the head and neck, but left him in good enough shape to walk around his neighborhood in a daze. By all accounts, moreover, competent care by the first responders and hospitals would have saved him. This is quite a strange hit indeed, then: the hitmen supposedly relied on the incompetent care of paramedics and physicians to finish their prey off. That no hit in the history of the world ever worked like this before should be obvious enough. Enter the strange world of the conspiracy theorists: the hit was sophisticated enough to include the police (who have framed the two suspects and tricked him into confessing), but not sophisticated enough to actually kill the target outright (that, inm the controrted world of the CTs, would have been too obvious!). Nay! Nay! They hit him just hard enough that he would die two days later, because of the actions of otherwised uninvolved health care workers! Would you have to be insane to believe that this was an assassination once you know the facts? Of course, but that won't stop the nuts from insisting that reality is upside down, and we're through the looking glass....

10. Thank you for a dose of reality
Truly, there isn't a conspiracy behind every "Bush" in Washington.
