Alito ends testimony, appears headed to approval

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito completed his testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday after frustrated Democrats took a final crack at getting more definitive answers from the 55-year-old conservative.

President George W. Bush's nominee appeared headed toward confirmation later this month by the full Republican-led Senate, but more than half the Democrats were expected to oppose him.

Following three days of questioning of Alito, the Senate Judiciary Committee was to hear from outside witnesses, including some of Alito's colleagues on the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

16. I loathe that other half. I truly loathe them
if they give Alito a free pass, then it's time to go third party IMHO. Being a part of the opposition party means OPPOSING the immoral, lying, un-American bastards!

3. Oh boy! A shining future lies ahead!!
Abortion will be made illegal in many states again.
The president will be able to overrule any law in times of war if he deems it necessary.
Christianity will be the acclaimed foundation of our country.
Corporate interests will be officially held in higher value than the rights of the individual.

Old Griswold could rear his mighty head again and make contraception illegal. (Not to mention
alternative sexual lifestyles.)

Yes, our country will have a clean and virtuous future ahead of it!

Stop the world, I want to get off.

9. Even more, check this out...
Some things we know Alito supports, according to his appalling record:

- Condoms will be illegal or only available by prescription, even to married couples.

- Immigrants and non-citizens will NOT have the same protections under the law than full citizens. Alito opposes that any non-citizens living in US soil should enjoy the same protections under the law. He was very adamant about it.
So tourists, immigrants, and diplomats could be killed or abused here, and the US law wouldn't cover it. Too bad!

- Wiretaps for everyoneeeee!!!!

- The president will be king. Period. You don't like it? Too bad. More wiretaps for you, you commie!

- Hope you liked the wiretaps, cause Alito also supports strip-searches for everyone! Even 10-year olds!

- He also opposes medical and maternity leave!!! You just had triplets? F#ck you, and get back to work the next day, you lazy fornicator!

- Alito also thinks that threatening a retarded man with sodomy with a broomstick in the workplace is a-OK!!! Just bring some K-Y to the workplace!

And apparently the Democrats are fine with this as well, since they are not willing to filibuster this creep.

4. Say goodbye to 2006

The Dems are poised to lose another Congressional election.

I wonder whether what passes as "leadership" will take ANY action at all against the Dems who would vote who'd cloture?

That's the biggest problem in the Party- their own members do more harm than the Republicans do- it's why they're become irrelevant in national politics. And why they'll remain that way for a long, long time.

7. They lack a SPINE!!!
Even with Bush below 40% approval they are still incapable of even faking some opposition.

We are lost. Say hello to 30 years of theocratic rule.
Way to go!

15. Are these guys blind...
this is about as serious as it gets...

The high court has played a huge role in doing more than just interpreting law…they have actually set precedence…Roe v. Wade for example, is a precedence and not a law…the precedence has nothing to do with law…it has everything to do with individual human needs that enable one to live a happy life… a law would be: you can not have an abortion even if you chose to not have another life form residing in you…the precedence, on the other hand is…no one can force you to preserve the life of another at the risk of that individuals health or happiness…

The whole “The high court is only there to interpret existing law” notion, has been perpetrated by those entrapped by a fundamentalist view of life for quite a while and has been ramping up to its current point…where it is at now, is, people are only looking to the high court as a sort of administration team and not the genuine power (to change precedence) that they are…those purporting the old fundamentalist energy want us to let our guard down in order to put a court in place that will not waiver from old and antiquated ways…I personally think that we are at a critical point in American history…if we close the door on the evolution & progression that we have seen over the years, we will never see full and equal rights for all…American law and the interpretation of it are both meant to progress and they were established in order to evolve as a nation of ‘Human Rights’ and not a nation of ‘Laws’…

Blah-bud-e-blah-blah-blah…amen

13. Hello!
The question should be: What is wrong with America?

Answer: if you watched the recent FrontLine series on PBS, "Country Boys", that will help you to find the answer.

“Politics is a pendulum whose swings between anarchy and tyranny are fueled by perpetually rejuvenated illusions.”
-A. Einstein

RIP USA

What a sad moment, and it's happening before our very eyes -- and, all due to usurped, fraudulent power. They had to 'steal it' to 'do it'. Coup'ing of the courts is the Big Enchilada.
