Marine commander says al-Qaida likely behind deadly Ramadi attack, but no proof

(Washington-AP, Jan. 6, 2006 10:25 AM) _ The commander of U.S. forces in western Iraq said Friday he suspects that al-Qaida's affiliate in Iraq carried out the suicide bomb attack in Ramadi that killed dozens, including two U.S. troops, on Thursday, although he has no evidence to prove it.

"This attack shows the desperate, murderous nature of al-Qaida," Marine Maj. Gen. Stephen Johnson told reporters at the Pentagon by teleconference from his headquarters in Fallujah, the predominantly Sunni Arab city west of Baghdad.

He said local citizens blamed Al-Qaida in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

"We don't have any evidence that it was al-Qaida," Johnson said, although the attack bore "all the markings of al-Qaida," including the use of a suicide bomber.

6. My favorite line in this
bullshit fiction is "He said local citizens blamed Al-Qaida in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi." Telling the truth would get Major Gen. Johnson court-martialed, but it goes something like this: "Local citizens blamed the continuing presence of the United States military and any Iraqi who would, out of desperation, collaborate would them. When asked about Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, local citizens shurgged their shoulders indicating they had never heard of him."

7. Speaking of no proof
There are several discussion on DU about conspiracy theories. I think the Bush Administration and the military have us all beaten when it comes to crazy conspiracy theories.

""We don't have any evidence that it was al-Qaida," Johnson said, although the attack bore "all the markings of al-Qaida," including the use of a suicide bomber."

So all suicide bombers are al-qaida? That news to me.

They keep saying whenever something bad happens, that it has the "markings of a-qaida". But what does al-qaida do differently from any other resistance movement?

Finally, if he has no proof, why does the AP quote him? Would they quote him if he said that the bombing had all the markings of the penguins from the movie Madagascar?
