White House denies calling for probe

THE White House said overnight it had no role in the Justice Department's decision to investigate the leaking of classified information indicating that President George W. Bush authorised a secret government wiretap program.

"The Justice Department undertook this action on its own, which is the way it should be," White House spokesman Trent Duffy said in Crawford, Texas, where the President was enjoying a year-end vacation on his ranch.

But he added: "The White House was informed of the decision, as was the president."

Mr Duffy stressed that "the leaking of classified information is a serious issue." And he defended the use of wiretaps, warning that "Al-Qaeda's playbook is not printed on page one, and when America's is, it has serious ramifications."

That's hilarious. Difference is, jackass, we have a Constitution that protects us from totalitarian regimes such as, oh, the Taliban. Jackass.

6. Classified Information?
So basically classified information to George is anything that makes you look like a fascist crusader. Gosh that's a lot of paperwork hiding in the vault.

10. We recently visited the Clinton and Carter libraries,
and it got us wondering what the Bush library will be like. They won't be able to use hardly any of his papers- it will all be classified.
Will they have his famous flight suit?
What kind of gifts do foreign leaders give him?
Will you have to be a Republican to get in?

9. I Wonder How the Federal WhistleBlower Act Relates to this?
The Federal Whistleblower act is designed to protect Federal employees who uncover wrongdoing in their agencies. I wonder how that Act would relate to the person who leaked the story about the illegal wiretaps.

The number of suspects is probably pretty small, because most people in the NSA reportedly did not know about the illegal wiretaps. My guess is that the guy is no longer a Federal employee. The State Department is the main place where they "round up the usual suspects" whenever a leak like this occurs.

This incident brings to mind the military policy of obeying orders. I believe many people inside the NSA complex are military. Every member of the military is instructed that they should not obey an "illegal order." This training came out of the My Lai Massacure in Vietnam, I believe. If they are supposed to keep a violation of the Constitution' prohibition on illegal search and seizure secret, is that an illegal order?

12. "the leaking of classified information is a serious issue."
I guess they learned this in the new "ethics class" they have been told to take. Not sure Rove or Libby know of this exciting new development.
