1. And KGB returns to Crawford for another vacation
I wonder what sort of equipment he will fall off this time.

We approach 2200 dead, 35,000 injured, fractured, disabled and mentally ailing, and he gives oratory exercises worthy of the fourth grade.

So sad, so pointless.

2. HOW MANY MORE GEORGIE HOW MANY MORE?
HOW MANY MORE GEORGIE, HOW MANY MORE?

Sam Stone

Sam Stone came home,
To the wife and family
After serving in the conflict overseas.
And the time that he served,
Had shattered all his nerves,
And left a little shrapnel in his knees.
But the morhpine eased the pain,
And the grass grew round his brain,
And gave him all the confidence he lacked,
With a purple heart and a monkey on his back.

There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes,
Jesus Christ died for nothin I suppose.
Little pitchers have big ears,
Don't stop to count the years,
Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios.

Sam Stone's welcome home
Didn't last too long.
He went to work when he'd spent his last dime
And soon he took to stealing
When he got that empty feeling
For a hundred dollar habit without overtime.
And the gold roared through his veins
Like a thousand railroad trains,
And eased his mind in the hours that he chose,
While the kids ran around wearin' other peoples' clothes...

There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes,
Jesus Christ died for nothin I suppose.
Little pitchers have big ears,
Don't stop to count the years,
Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios.

Sam Stone was alone
When he popped his last balloon,
Climbing walls while sitting in a chair.
Well, he played his last request,
While the room smelled just like death,
With an overdose hovering in the air.
But life had lost it's fun,
There was nothing to be done,
But trade his house that he bought on the GI bill,
For a flag-draped casket on a local hero's hill.

There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes,
Jesus Christ died for nothin I suppose.
Little pitchers have big ears,
Don't stop to count the years,
Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios.

John Prine.

16. Thank you leftchick
for being so vigilant posting the count, it's not an easy task to undertake

For The Fallen

With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres,
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.

But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain."
-Laurence Binyon

That this rat bastard pays for his crimes against humanity....

U.S. Secretary of Defense H. Donald Rumsfeld attends a medal ceremony for soldiers in the 173rd Airborne at an air base in Khandahar, Afghanistan, Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005. Rumsfeld said on Thursday a rapid withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq or Afghanistan would spawn more terrorism in the region and raise the risk of attacks on the United States. 13. He looks like a little boy
That photo of the injured soldier looks like a child, holding his dogtags. Evil, corrupt, greedy men are sending teen-aged boys and girls to die, and to kill other mother's children. Two of the most disgraceful acts in American history have been committed by Bush...the illegal invasion of Iraq, and the abandonment of the Gulf Coast after hurricane Katrina.

9. #s
I wish we'd stop attaching the # to each of these people who have died in this conflict...seems pretty impersonal and, I think, disrespectful. They do have names, and even though we might not know them right away, they do deserve respect. I think some might see this as a simple tally of how wrong George W. Bush is. Their deaths are much more than that.

10. Some might see it that way
Others might see the names and numbers as both relevant.

As it stands, the "tally" remains relevant in a social or public sense - just as relevant as the names are in a private and public sense. Would you argue that the total number of US deaths are not relevant? I'd like to hear that argument.

Besides, pragmatically, the news of these deaths comes out before the names are announced. This is a news forum, you know?

12. the fields of crosses that people
erect usually have the names of each soldier killed. But you know, as important as it is to know their names, the numbers of the dead are important to know also. It is too bad we don't count the Iraqi dead in the same way every day, because I think that if people knew how many women and children we are killing there, they would be stunned. Before * bombed Iraq, over 50% of the population was under the age of 15. BTW Sabien, Welcome to DU :hi:

Edited on Fri Dec-23-05 02:57 PM by leftchick
The corporate owned media?? Fuck that! I will continue to post them and count the dead as long as the USA continues to ignore them. I have posted Many threads with individual DEAD soldier's names as well. Why don't you try it?

18. Not for President AWOL, nor for Vice President 'Other Priorities'

A Poem That I Wrote In A High Fever

You who are lengthening your lives
with the best doctors and the best medicines
remember those who are shortening their lives
with the wars
that you in your long lives are not
preventing.

You who are again screwing
the younger generations
and winking at each other
the winking of your eyelids
is like the chill of the swinging shutters
in an empty house.

21. Stack em up like cords of wood!

Grass Bush

Pile the bodies high in Austerlitz and Waterloo Iraq
Shovel them under and let me work--
I am the grass; bush; I cover all.

And pile them high in Gettyburg Baghdad
And pile them high in Ypres and Vedum Mossoul and Al Fallaujah

Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?

I am the grass bush.
Let me work.

Carl Sandburg

Bring all the troops home today.
