U.S. State Dept. slams media coverage of Saddam trial
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=e28dbb600247514c

The U.S. State Department Thursday criticized media coverage of Saddam Hussein's trial in Iraq, saying his courtroom outbursts are getting more coverage than the testimony of his victims.

Officials reiterated that Saddam Hussein's complaints of mistreatment by U.S. jailers are "bogus."

Officials at the State Department rarely engage in media criticism. But they are making clear their frustration over the latest coverage of the Saddam trial, which they say has focused on the Iraqi leader's courtroom "grand-standing" rather than the compelling testimony about human rights abuses by his regime.

1. We no longer have a State Department
It is a Bush Propoganda Department. They should be honest and declare that.

8. I dont think it is actually live...
i heard a BBC correspondent (john simpson i think) say that there is a 30 minute delay to allow the excision of any embarrassing incidents. he was talking about what is being broadcast in iraq and i have no idea how altered the final broadcast is.

20. intentional mass genocide of a phenomenal amount of your own Kurdish
population and the jailing and executions of any potential ooposition party leaders. Fortunately we still have an opposition party, but as much as I don't lke him and as much as what he's done that is illegal he is still not close to as heartless and ruthless as Saddam was.

Edited on Fri Dec-23-05 04:33 PM by sfexpat2000
and the Lancet puts the death toll at 100,000 dead.

The difference between Bush and Saddam is Bush's pr team. Same rape rooms, torture, political prisonors, fake elections, and cronyism but with better spin.

Let's not kid ourselves. :(

13. Officials Say!
Doesn't anyone have a name anymore. How does this shadow speaker know if Saddam was mistreated or not? I suppose he asked the jailer.
This trial would be much better served if Saddam was turned over to the World Court.
