Pirro Abandons Challenge to Sen. Clinton
irro Abandons Challenge to Sen. Clinton

By MARC HUMBERT, Associated Press Writer 21 minutes ago

ALBANY, N.Y. - After weeks of pressure from her own party to drop out, Republican Jeanine Pirro abandoned her struggling campaign to unseat Sen.
Hillary Rodham Clinton and announced Wednesday that she will run for New York attorney general instead.

"I have decided that my law enforcement background better qualifies me for a race for New York State attorney general than a race for the United States Senate," Pirro, the Westchester County district attorney, said in a statement.

With her campaign against Clinton in trouble, Pirro had been under strong pressure from top state GOP leaders to make the switch.

The move leaves Republicans with two active candidates for the Senate nomination: former Yonkers Mayor John Spencer, who is not well known statewide, and an even less well known tax attorney from the Catskills region, William Brenner.

2. Sean Hannity shitting BRICKS......hes supported her!
Hannity pledged "maximum" contribution to Clinton challenger Pirro; asked listeners to donate too

On the September 20 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Fox News host Sean Hannity pledged to make the "maximum" contribution to the campaign of 2006 Republican Senate candidate Jeanine Pirro, who is running against Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY). Hannity also said he wanted his listeners to donate to Pirro's campaign, asked Pirro "how can people get in touch" with her to make a contribution, and promised to provide a link to her campaign website on his own Web page, Hannity.com. Pirro's campaign website features a photograph of her with Hannity above the caption "Fox News commentator and popular syndicated radio host Sean Hannity comes to support Jeanine Pirro at a local event held in her honor. February 2005."

6. Wasn't she
that shrill right-wing woman who always had an opinion for every news program on OJ, Scott peterson, Michael Jackson and any other high-profile or celebrity trial?

Then again...there are so many like that...

7. Pirro quits NY Senate Race to run for Atty General
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/22/nyregion/22pirro.html

Clever Jeanine...she makes her announcement in the thick of the NYC-transit strike media storm when no one is really paying attention. So she will emerge a fresh, clean and shiny new AG candidate after it's all blown over.

Funny, how this news was buried on... PAGE TEN! (tee hee- just kidding)

Jeanine F. Pirro, whose campaign to unseat United States Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton was in upheaval almost from the start, said yesterday that she would abandon the race and would instead run for attorney general of New York.

Ms. Pirro, the longtime Westchester County district attorney, announced her decision in a four-paragraph statement that her campaign released to reporters in the middle of the afternoon, a move that seemed calculated to garner as little attention as possible, coming as it did during the New York City transit strike.

In the statement, Ms. Pirro made no mention of the troubles that plagued her Senate campaign, including her own public gaffes, a chorus of criticism from fellow Republicans and an anemic fund-raising start. Instead, she argued that her background made her a more suitable candidate for attorney general.

"I have concluded that my head and my heart remain in law enforcement, and that my public service should continue to be in that arena," she said.

8. She's a smarter woman than I thought
I mean, she realized than running against Hillary would make her the new tool of the republican party and pretty much make her end up like Rick Lazio - without a career and broke!

10. Ohhhh, she seems a little confused and unable to make up her mind!
She'll never rise to the ranks of Con leadership with a defeatest attitude like that.

For *attorney general*????!!!

Her husband is a *convicted felon*.

Where's my hyperventilation bag?

I have to say... this state has the most INCOMPREHENSIBLE politics... with the possible exception of Texas... of any state in the union.

13. You know where your public service should be, Jeanine?
Think achievable. Think nets, stray canines and panel trucks. Think Dog Catcher.

Sorry New York; she's a national joke now. She's grown beyond the boundaries of the Empire State.

16. This should be spun as "GOP bosses force woman candidate to quit campaign"
Dems should be all over this, loudly pushing the idea that fat - ass misogynist Republican power brokers sabotaged the campaign of a qualified woman and forced her to withdraw so they can run a MAN. Pirro doesn't have the brains God gave tuna salad but she was the district attorney of Westchester County, NY, a county that's more populous than many cities, so she's arguably more qualified for the Senate than many who sit there now. Let's exploit the Republicans' problems with women voters using the unfortunate Mrs. Pirro as our wedge.
