Bush to cite Iraq progress in key address

By Caren Bohan Sun Dec 18, 1:34 AM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -
President George W. Bush is expected on Sunday to tout last week's
Iraq election as a hopeful sign for the U.S. mission there in a prime-time address aimed at quelling Americans' anxiety about the war.

Bush's televised address from the Oval Office comes as he tries to boost his weak approval ratings ahead of next year's mid-term elections.

Concern about Iraq, where the U.S. military death toll has climbed above 2,100, helped drive his approval ratings to all-time lows a few weeks ago, but they have since shown signs of stabilizing in the low 40-percent range.

The slow federal response to Hurricane Katrina, worries about high energy costs, and corruption allegations against senior Republican politicians have also sapped his administration........

propaganda, propaganda, propaganda.

more brain wash. more brain wash. more brain wash.

bush has learned his trade from the likes of saddam hussein, fidel castro, adolph hitler, benito mussolini, augusto pinochet, generalísimo francisco franco.

and any other garden variety dictator throughout history.

3. Fluff and Spin
It'll be fodder for more spin. It'll give the AM radio right wing talk shows and Fox News something to spin, but there will be nothing of substance.

5. As much as it sickens me to watch him spew his drivel, I am going to
try and tune in on this one. It seems he's tossed aside his handlers the past couple of weeks so bits of truth have been leaking out of his mouth between the lies. He's been coming off as arrogant and defiant. I think he's trying to get back that image of "strong, determined, you know where I stand, leader" that Rove carefully crafted for him. It doesn't appear to be working without Rove's special turd polish.

Might be wishful thinking on my part - but that's why I've gotta tune in tonight.

6. SOP for America for the Bush years
Edited on Sun Dec-18-05 09:47 AM by Zodiak Ironfist
counting chickens before they hatch. The only time to measure "success" is 6 months from now. My god, we do not know who won the election or whether opposing factions will accept the results.

Manwhile, it is STILL ilegal to have an election in a foreign-occupied country.

Hani believes the only solution is a UN-appointed interim government -- one not aligned with the United States. He cautions that any elections carried out according to the "Bremer laws," instituted by former American occupation chief Paul Bremer, will be a dismal failure.

"We all believe the Bremer laws have no legal basis, neither here nor anywhere else," he said from his home in Baghdad. "According to the Geneva Conventions and the Hague, the occupying force has no authority to change the laws of the occupied country."

The Hague regulations of 1907, which the US ratified, as well as the US Army's Law of Land Warfare, state that the alteration of an occupied country's laws is illegal.

10. ANOTHER "key" address?
And, as usual, he'll blather on for 40 minutes then answer no questions.

What about the domestic spying, Mr. President? Why did you authorize that? Who did you spy on? What evidence did you gather illegally, and which you can't use in court? How does shredding the civil liberties of the American people not further the interests and the agenda of the terrorists? Why are the public dealings of your office so secret, but the personal dealings of the people are so public in your administration?

But now the networks will give him some more free air time to catapult some more propaganda.

11. Good and Bad
Now that Iraq is a "sovereign" nation, won't our soldiers be subject to their authority? Any more accidental killings by our soldiers could touch off a major incident if a local judge or government official decides to press charges. This happened to the British in Mosul a couple of months ago. Will be interesting especially if the Sunnis decide to play the game.

15. Methinks there's desperation in the air....
I saw a photo of Bush on Yahoo news from yesterday. Bush looked incredibly bad. That weird droop on the left corner of his mouth was really drooping.

Bush's eyes were puffy. He looked like he'd been up all night, crying. I bet I know what the tears were about. Hint = it's black. It's greasy. And it's worth Gold.
