10. Exactly, another suicide!
Who knows how many ticking time bombs will return from Iraq and how many we already have here?

12. Or an accident?
non-hostile gunshot wound = suicide

Not necessarily, I would think. It would seem that mistaken identity, "friendly fire", or a simple negligent discharge by the victim or someone else could also be classed as a "non-hostile gunshot wound."

19. Probably suicide - but couldn't it also be homicide?

Local soldier from my area was murdered last month by a fellow soldier in Iraq. Shot multiple times. And the Army was not very forthcoming about the cause for a couple of weeks.

3. Doesn't that translate as "No benefits awarded?"
I think it does.

Especially if it's ruled a suicide.

7. Well, if it was "non-hostile"......
that makes it alright. Give me a break. Dead is dead and the soldier wouldn't be dead if Bush hadn't invaded a sovereign nation.

He's a war criminal/coward.

16. Are you serious?
Soldiers commit suicide primarily because of the ills that war puts upon them.

Combat trauma DOESN'T happen at home. Hopelessness and acute home-sickness DOESN'T happen at home. The guilt of knowing your squad gunned down an innocent family DOESN'T happen at home. Just about everything that drives so many soldiers to depression and mental stress does not happen at home.

11. Surprised? It's just another swell by-product of going to war
Edited on Sun Dec-18-05 12:33 PM by Ernesto
Think about it folks: take a stressed out bunch of kids add live ammo and bingo! Shit happens.
I saw way too many "friendly fire" incidents that happened @ LBJ's quagmire.

13. Stack em up!

Grass Bush

Pile the bodies high in Austerlitz and Waterloo Iraq
Shovel them under and let me work--
I am the grass; bush; I cover all.

And pile them high in Gettyburg Baghdad
And pile them high in Ypres and Vedum Mossoul and Al Fallaujah

Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?

I am the grass bush.
Let me work.

Carl Sandburg

Bring the troops home a live & not in boxes

I'm surprised fragging has not become epidemic by now- perhaps it HAS. They're just not talking about it.

on the death of another soldier from same town.

<snip>

Meanwhile, a marine from Cullman is dead after being shot in the head while in his barracks Friday night in Iraq.

21-year-old marine Corporal Adam Fales was asleep when someone came in and shot him in the back of the head.

Fales was nearing the end of his four year tour of duty and was due home in February.

The incident is under investigation by the Marine Corps.
