New Hariri report 'blames Syria'
Last Updated: Sunday, 11 December 2005, 23:03 GMT

New Hariri report 'blames Syria'

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has received the second report into the killing of former Lebanese
Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

The report is said to detail Syria's alleged role in the murder.

It comes days after United Nations investigator Detlev Mehlis's team questioned five Syrian officials.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad vowed again on Sunday that he would punish any Syrian involved in
the murder plot.

2. It seems like this report is just ignoring the witness's recantation
"Mr Mehlis said his investigation was not affected by the retractions of a Syrian witness two weeks ago and none of his conclusions presented to the UN Security Council in October need to be altered."

There better be some persuasive evidence this time, or this looks like a politically motivated investigation.

9. Surprised? NOT
S lobbies to keep German prosecutor on Hariri case

By Evelyn Leopold Fri Dec 2, 2:15 PM ET

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The United States urged U.N. Secretary-General
Kofi Annan on Friday to persuade German prosecutor Detlev Mehlis to continue leading the probe into the killing of a former Lebanese prime minister into next year.

Mehlis, who began his investigation in May, has said he was only on the job for six months and would leave by the end of the year as head of a U.N. team looking into the assassination of Rafik Hariri and 22 others in Beirut in February.

The investigation was scheduled to end December 15 but the
U.N. Security Council will probably extend it after Lebanon asked that the commission, which has not finished its work, stay in business for another six months.

U.S. Ambassador John Bolton told reporters, "we understand he (Mehlis) has extended his tenure once and he's in dangerous personal circumstances there," he said in reference to threats made against the prosecutor.

But Bolton said the United States had asked Annan to keep Mehlis in his post. If he does not agree, the
United Nations should quickly name a successor. The best person for the job, Bolton quipped, would be "a clone of Mehlis."

In a letter to Annan on Thursday, Bolton said the United States wanted Mehlis to "continue in his current capacity."

10. Mehlis is a spook
Mehlis already covered up for the CIA and Western European intelligence agencies before...

He was the investigator on the 1996 Disco bombing in Berlin which German television found was:

What the German documentary reveals

The Frontal report arrives at the following conclusions:

1) The lead defendant presently on trial, Yasser Chraidi, is very possibly innocent, and is being used as a scapegoat by German and American intelligence services.

2) At least one of the defendants, Musbah Eter, has been working for the CIA over many years.

3) Some of the key suspects have not appeared in court, because they are being protected by Western intelligence services.

4) At least one of those, Mohammed Amairi, is an agent of Mossad, the Israeli secret service.

Not me.

I am posting verbatim - a snip from the website.

Of course the Mossad would never do anything like this... we know that. And it's anti-Semitic to even think so.

15. Of course not...
Does someone actually pay you to hang around and provide DU with the "Israel is innocent" propaganda and rhetoric all day? Because it seems that's all you do.

Every thread that casts a light on Israel's complicity in Iraq and other Middle East affairs is branded as anti-Semitic - which is ridiculous. I can understand an argument providing data to the contrary and unloading your point... but constantly running around spewing snarky remarks and pulling out the 'race' card is rather shallow. Can't you do any better?

No, I didn't think so.

16. What a sad response!
Did I ever say Israel is innocent? Nope! But, that doesn't seem to matter to you.

Where have you seen me brand complicity in Iraq with anti-Semitism? Ummm, bet you can't find it because if it is anti-Semitic, I alert. Well, I had the exception the other night with the Holocaust revisionist.

You seem to be unable to acknowledge that anti-Semitism is a real issue and plays into anti-Israeli issues. I find this so surprising since the Dutch, not as much as the Danish, resisted the onslaught of Nazism.

18. What does Nazism have to do with this conversation?
Why do we have to roll back 50 years?

What does the reaction of my ancestors have to do with anything we are discussing?

Tell me - what to you think about the German youth today? Do you hate them for what their ancestors did?

We that live in Europe don't regurgitate the war anymore.

And before you pipe in about the Holocaust - my father is Dutch - and yes, his family were resisters in the war... my grandfather (now 92) was in a camp in Germany for 4 years (he never talks about it) for transmitting data to England... but my mother is a Native Canadian who's ancestors were slaughtered by Europeans a few hundred years ago. Then again, my father's ancestors were killed by Spanish occupiers in Holland around the same time.

How far back in history is relevant? Picts vs the Saxons?

I don't hate Europeans, I don't hate the Spanish, I don't hate Jewish people, and I don't hate Israelis. In fact, I have not hatred of any one group of people including those of Muslim faith.

But I do dislike apologists.

You may be trying to create a balance to what you see as a strong anti-Semitic streak in DU by ridiculing critiques of Israel, but you are also creating animosity by not providing anything more than snarky remarks.

In My Humble Opinion.

19. Relevance.
What does Nazism have to do with this conversation? Oh nothing....other than, "It must be Israel (the Jews) who did this!"

Roll back 50 years? It has been longer than that, but it doesn't matter because the revisionists have already made their mark.

"Tell me - what to you think about the German youth today? Do you hate them for what their ancestors did?" Tell me - what do you think of Israeli youth today? Do you hate them for what their ancestors did?

How predictable that your father's action should represent yours! You seem to be willing to let it happen all over again! I don't have the luxury of quoting grandfathers and such because they aren't here!!! So, would you hide Jews?

I don't hate anyone either. But, I love how you threw in that you don't even hate Muslims either, as if I would. It does say much to your thoughts about Jews.

I don't care for apologists either, on either side. But that doesn't matter because I am "pro"-Israeli I must hate Arabs and Muslims! :eyes: Even better, I must support the destruction of Palestinians ans their wish for a homeland. :eyes:

You say: "You may be trying to create a balance to what you see as a strong anti-Semitic streak in DU by ridiculing critiques of Israel, but you are also creating animosity by not providing anything more than snarky remarks." I am not creating any balance. I am only addressing rampant conspiracy bullshit as it presents itself. Why is it that all the evils of the ME can be laid on the doorstep of Israel? Ever think about that? I doubt it because it is much easier to have a scapegoat than believe that some things are what the really are (see the title of this thread).
