Two N.J. Congressmen regret their votes in favor of Iraq war

Associated Press

NEWARK, N.J. - Two of New Jersey's Democratic Congressmen who cast votes favoring the United States invasion of Iraq three years ago said this week they regretted their decisions.

Reps. Steven Rothman, D-Fair Lawn and William Pascrell, D-Paterson, both said the Bush Administration was to blame for supplying erroneous information that Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and that he posed a direct threat to the U.S.

Given a chance to vote again with what they now know, the two Garden State legislators both said they would vote "no."

"I made a mistake. I must be held accountable," Pascrell told The Star Ledger of Newark for Sunday's newspapers. "But I also point to the president and blame him. He must be held accountable. I am not in denial. He is."

1. And now we wait
to see if he will be embraced by the liberals and defended against the smear-tsunami that's bound to spew from the Repiglican Party.

One may hope our side will defend as fiercely as the other attacks.

2. That is all Hillary has to do
and she better do it soon. If she does it in 2008 she will be accused of an election year conversion. If she does it now, clearly and crisply, without any prevaricating ("I voted for it before I voted against it"), then she will have enough time to defend that stance.

Hillary better wake up. She better realize that neo-cons, and their little pecker-head, phony intellectual friends at the think tanks, will never vote for her, no matter how hard she tries. She will always be insufficiently hawkish to suit them. But she can get us back, if she listens to us.

5. politics as usual
no one had the guts to speak up when it really mattered, now over 2000 Americans dead and over 100,000 Iraqies dead, they all want to be on the right side before the election next fall, time to start coping a plea now so the voters know where their heart is, we all know where their hand is, in our pockets..

6. Nope, none of us in the streets around the world knew what we were
talking about...

:sarcasm:

I really appreciate their change of heart...I just wish it had come prior to the invasion.
