DeLay's involvement in fund-raiser an 'affirmation'
Sure, he's indicted. Sure, he's expected to face trial early next year on money-laundering charges. But on Wednesday in Washington, Rep. Tom DeLay, R-Texas, the former House majority leader, will be the guest star at a fund-raiser for Arizona GOP Rep. Trent Franks' re-election campaign.

"Congressman Tom DeLay invites you to join Congressman Trent Franks for a reception and dinner," reads the announcement, posted under "events" on the National Republican Congressional Committee's Web site, www.nrcc.org.

.......

In an interview Friday Franks said he knows that DeLay's involvement will raise eyebrows and that "I'm aware of the political risks involved.

"But this is also our statement of affirmation that we believe in Tom DeLay, and that we believe he will be exonerated, and that the indictment against him was politically motivated and an absolute injustice," Franks said.

2. I'm sure it was a calculated risk.
If the guy wasn't afraid of waking up with a horse's head in his bed, not only would he not have gone down with the ship, he would have denied ever being on a ship, denied that there was a ship and then denied the existence of ships as a concept.
