Kucinich pledges help to UAW
A United Auto Workers leader said Monday that he is "extremely concerned" about the future of the Ford casting plant in Brook Park.

Tim Levandusky, the president of UAW Local 1250, which represents hourly workers at Ford's huge Brook Park complex, made his comments after a meeting with other UAW officials and U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich, who promised to explore ways to protect auto industry jobs in Ohio.

"We know we can't lose another plant, and we are not going to let that happen," Kucinich said during the meeting in Brook Park, which also included the city's mayor, Mark Elliott.

.......

"This is about our children and grandchildren," he said. "We have to get the word out - 'Buy American.' This is a matter of our allegiance to our own communities, our belief in each other, our commitment to each other."

1. Too bad Ford has decided it doesn't want gay money
Maybe Ford should think about stuff like that before they give in to right wing nuts.

3. Does the UAW have any hope...

If Ford and GM keep up their poor business practices? The Japanese are driving circles around them in terms of design, and their internal management is equally sloppy. Unions seem to be taking a beating from globalized trade; I wonder how long it'll be until China and Indonesia are calling the shots as well as making the merchandise.

7. "Buy American"
Edited on Wed Dec-07-05 09:52 AM by sfexpat2000
Doug just read Al Franken's book. There is a section detailing how you can still slap a "made in America" tag on GAP products (there is a list of about ten companies) when they are made in sweatshop condition in Sai Pan. Where they have forced prostitution and forced abortion.

On edit: The Bugman has investments there and of course, he killed a House bill to outlaw sweatshops there.

8. A lot of hard-working Democrats will lose their jobs if it closes.
If anybody can prevent it, Dennis can.

Let's hope he can, because there are NO jobs for these people, and certainly none that pay a living wage. A friend of mine has worked there about 15 years. He is low man on the totem pole and would be among the first to go. His wife just lost her job in another industry and if he loses his they could lose their house.

The economy in NE Ohio is dismal as it is. This closing would decimate it. Thanks chimp and thanks Ford. We note you've been well-rewarded for YOUR incompetence, despite the suffering you've caused. May you all rot in hell.
