El Baradei: Iran only months away from a bomb
IAEA chairman Muhammad ElBaradei on Monday confirmed Israel's assessment that Iran is only a few months away from creating an atomic bomb.

"If Teheran indeed resumes its uranium enrichment in other plants, as threatened, it will take it only several months to produce a bomb," ElBaradei told The Independent, according to Army Radio.

"On the other hand," he warned, "any attempt to resolve the crisis by non-diplomatic means will open a Pandora's box."

2. I don't know, a 3 sentence "article" in the Jerusalem Post w/o a by line?
That's awfully thin. Do you have the link to the article in "The Independent?" That might help the credibility of this story.

15. Thank You, now let's all read what he REALLY Said, not the BS the JP...
...printed:

"...Although IAEA officials have said it would take at least two years for Natanz to become fully operational, Mr ElBaradei believes that once the facility is up and running, the Iranians could be "a few months" away from a nuclear weapon. "That's why there is the concern of the international community about Iran," he said, "because lots of people feel it could be a dual purpose programme".

Did he believe the Iranians were building a nuclear weapon? "The jury's out," he said. "It's difficult to read their intention. We're still going through the programme to make sure it's all for peaceful purposes.

"I know they are trying to acquire the full fuel cycle. I know that acquiring the full fuel cycle means that a country is months away from nuclear weapons, and that applies to Iran and everybody else...."

<http://news.independent.co.uk/world/asia/article331219.ece>

Looks like some "Cherry Picking" of Mr. ElBaradei's words is going on at the Jerusilam Post too.

17. Well, we aren't suprised to read it was out of context...
And it explains why over the weekend we had the US military going on record with the statement that the US air force's space command is operationally ready to strike pre-emptively anywhere on the planet.

19. Thanks..The full article is clear that Iran is YEARS away.
But still, according to fearless leader, we must be afraid...mushroom clouds, over there not over here, evildoers are everywhere, axis of evil.

On the other hand, with election 06 on the horizon, just like Vietnam, the Iraq withdrawal will soon begin. And, I don't think * wants IRAQ III (Iran) hanging over his head. Afghanistan was 'easy', Iraq hard and Iran would be a drawn out disaster.

7. This story scares me...
If the UN claims Iran is joining Club Nuke, this gives Cheney, Rummy and the crew a big opening. You know they have no problem with preemptive slaughter. Even Dubya could be in on this decision. New GOP slogan: 'Rapture 2006, Come On Already!'

27. But you lose thousands of civilians - maybe tens or hundreds of thousands
And maybe Israel gets hit with the chemical weapons we are constantly told Syria, Iran, etc. have. And maybe that leads to a nuclear counterstrike by Israel. And maybe that leads to an international war, which could easily go nuclear with powers like Russia and China involved. That could kill hundreds of millions, many in North America. And so forth.

But at least a U.S. pilot won't die in the initial 5k nuclear strike on Iran.

Because Isreal will certainly attack. Which means Iran will attack our forces in Iraq and fire back at Israel and all hell will break lose.

before desert storm,we sit down with Iraq and told them. We would answer any attack with equal force. nuke for nuke bio for bio chemical for chemical...I sure Iran would get the same. I see sand being turned into glass.

16. There are elections in Israel right now. Netanjahu is trying to get votes
by suggesting Israel should attack Iran. That's the background. The full text of the Independent-article reads totally different.
